Chocolate cosmos anyone?

Hello all, long time no posting! (But reading!)

I am looking for fragrant flowers for my garden,(Thanks to Trudi and all of you for enabling me in my quest to be a winter sower 3 years now!) I really want to know about "Chocolate Cosmos,

1. Do they smell like chocolate?

2. Will I have to plant alot of them to get a good showing and smelling?

3.Where can I buy the seeds from?

4. What other plants would you recommend that smell awesome, lovely or darn good to ya?

I know that I asked plenty But...help me pretty pleeeeease?!

GardenPooter, I haven't seen any seeds available, but several companies sell the plant or tuberous roots, such as Territorial and Naturehills, though both of their websites say that it's sold out for 2008. My search did pull up a place called Plant Safari that had it in stock, at a price of $8.00 for a 3" pot! According to the link below, it really does smell like chocolate. I LOVE the color! This one is definitely going on MY wishlist!

G-Pooter - I know nothing about these flowers except that they REALLY do smell like chocolate. A dear friend & I found them near our B&B in Mendocino, CA a few years ago - there may have been only 10-12 blooms in the growing bunch, - they were labeled as Chocolate Cosmos...so we had to sniff... : ) what a surprise! I think this would be worth the pursuit!

I was yakking with the lady at the botanic garden who was planting upmteen flats of those. She said that it does set seed, but only 5% are likely to germinate. The flats had been grown from seed. Im sure they have reliable sources for the seeds that we prolly dont have access too. I forgot that that kind has tubers, I coulda shoulda coulda asked her about that. Its not everyday you get a chance like that. :)

Hi GP,

I'm not sure about chocolate cosmos but I recently bought some seed for Chocolate Flower (berlandiera lyrata). The packet says it's a native of the southwest and the flowers smell like chocolate! They're perennials with yellow daisy-type flowers. I'm really, really hoping I can get some good plants out of this seed packet. I'd love to have flowers in my garden that smell like chocolate!

Hi you will have to buy the plants, as the seeds are sterile, propagation is from cuttings only.

I have been really wanting this one also...there are a lot of places offering it for 4.99 like brecks, and those type of companies.

Thank you all! My goodness I guess I will have to buy it online and check our Eastern Market on Flower day and see if they will have more! I am gonna get this plant..you know with this addiction and all and no rehab for it.... gotta have it!
