Cut and Run or Stay and Fight?

We are going to attempt to make a 40 foot long rebar arbor for my established roses. Our garden faces south and so do the roses. The grand plan is to cement 10 foot long rebar into the ground next to a row of established New Dawns that have long and stiff canes. Then we are going to tie 10 foot long horizontal placed rebar to the two legs so that some of the canes are resting on the rebar all the way up. The problem with the idea is that some of the New Dawns are stiff and wild like an octopus and are naturally pushing out toward the sun. One Dear Spouse says work with these establish roses so that we will have blooms next year. Then prune them in the spring after they bloom. One Dear Spouse feels strongly that we should stop fooling around and cut the New Dawns down and train them up the arbor and maybe even replace some of the New Dawns with better bloomesr. Can you guys shed some light on this issue? Do we cut and run with the idea or do we fight and stay ...with the established roses.
