What types of containers are easy to drill through?
Comments (6)Any container can have additional holes drilled, it just takes the right drill blade on a drill (electric or the old fashioned kind that you crank with your hand.) To find the blade, you need a good hardware store to advise you. Most times, it's best to start a hole with a 1/4 bit..the hole it makes will act as a guide for the wider/blade bit. Any blade can go through the styrofoam material in light weight pots. Almost any blade can go through the plastic pots. Pottery takes a different blade, and probably a variable speed drill. Metals take yet a different blade and oil to lubricate the blade's action....See MoreLayering makes it easy to vent my containers. A tip
Comments (16)Yes, I agree that a biodegradable cup would be nice. I am concerned about anyone putting a whole box of tomato seedlings in the ground, they would be way too close to each other to survive. with my 4 yr. old nanny boy we cut the bottom off the foam cup and tear off the rim then set it in the prepared (lots of compost and loose soil and watered) hole. A little extra soil over the rim makes the cup disappear. This helps in "planting out" with a child, grownups too. You might be surprised how the cup falls apart over the summer and can be troweled in the next year like vermiculite, lets air and water to the roots. In about 10 days our frost date will pass and we can start our planting, what fun that will be! At the end of July I will be leaving my nanny family after 4 years and 2 months. It will be so hard. these boys are dear to me. The 4 yr. old was 3 mos. when I started. But I can feel good about introducing them to the beauty of nature and all the joy it holds. Many children are indoors hooked up to video games or TV and deprived of the out-of-doors. There is a book out now called "The Last Child in the Woods" and it covers the topic of children not being exposed to nature. I'm going on and on, sorry. Have a beautiful gardening day and hug a child:)or a tree if no child is handy:) Tina...See MoreHow do you make Holes in Bottom of your Containers?
Comments (11)If I had time, I would take a picture. It is an electric drill (plenty of power), a drill bit, and a small hanging plastic pot. The pot came with very few drain holes and I wanted to add more. Yes, I did press down - a LOT. The plastic laughed and the drill bit did nothing. Maybe the bit is dull or too large or the wrong kind - it is about 1/4" bit. I got Dad's soldering iron a few days ago. He passed away four years ago but I still don't want to ruin it. Interested to know if the process results in plastic all over the iron....See MoreWhat makes a kitchen easy to clean /easy to keep clean?
Comments (42)Quartz countertops are, for example, very easy to clean and maintain, but everything actually depends on how do you use your kitchen (how often, do you clean right after preparing a meal, etc.). Also, new kitchens are easier and faster to clean than old ones. Hiring a cleaning company once every two weeks is ideal if you regularly clean your kitchen. Once a week is best if you don't like to clean up often. Practicing this routine will make any kitchen as clean as possible....See More- 11 years ago
