Good Medium-Sized Shade Tree?

catbird

I need an attractive 30-40' shade tree in a front yard flower bed to keep the summer sun off our living room windows. I need something smaller than an oak, with fewer surface roots than a maple, and larger than a crepe myrtle or cherry. Small leaves that don't have to be raked would be a big plus.

I've been considering a Chinese pistache or lacebark elm or hornbeam. If anyone has experience with one of these or has other suggestions, I'd appreciate some help. Thanks.
