You're welcome! It's not odd that cooler zones will report more fragrance from many than warmer areas. Those in the cooler places are probably smelling them when the oils and alcohols are most volatile and smell the most. We in the warmer areas often miss out because they evaporate faster as the heat increases. Also, as aridity increases, the scents burn out faster. The various components of each rose's fragrance evaporate at different rates, so one may smell very Damask at first, quickly morphing into orris or citrus, finishing a completely different scent before losing any detectable trace for the day. I recently borrowed this book from the library when Jeri mentioned it on this forum and very much enjoyed reading it. Rose de Rescht is not mentioned because the trip described in this book was in the 1930s and I believe she brought this rose from her second trip to Persia, right after WWII. The book was written by Alice Fullerton who was Nancy L.'s traveling companion. I was amazed how courageous these two ladies must have been to go alone on such trip to distant lands and not shying away from very remote areas. They did have a number of contacts in different places which helped, but still... Even today, with cell phones and modern technology, it would be quite adventurous to say the least. The book ends with Fullerton's description of many plants they brought back with them and only R. berberifolia and R. hemispherica (their friend calling it the 'Flower of Persia') were mentioned among the returned roses (and "two enchanting garden roses" but she didn't identify them). Rose de Rescht and other roses were collected on Nancy L.'s later trip.

Rose Du Roi does not have the lateral outgrowths on the sepals, and the glandular growth that gave the mossy smell from the resin you got on your finger tips when you rubbed your finger over the the buds/sepals. And the flowers are not as perfect as the flowers on Rose De Rescht. Some Rose de Rescht have probably been sold as Rose Du Roi adding to the confusion and GST theory that Rose Du Roi is and Rose de Rescht is the same rose. I wonder why a Estimated rosarian like GST could make such a mistake when there is such obvious differences between Rose De Rescht and Rose du Roi? A look on the sepals and you are able to distinguish the two roses. Also the foliage on Roi is lighter green and more coarse than Rose de Rescht. I suspect those that complain about the foliage on their Rose De Reshts grow Rose Du Roi. The Colour of Rose de Rescht blooms change a lot. The Amount of sunlight and temperature makes a big difference. Sometimes almost crimson, sometimes magenta-red other times more pink and sometimes almost pinkish/purple.: Here some photos of Rose De Rescht: A bud (see the shape of sepals and glandular growth similar to your rose): A nice bloom: some more blooms: here a spent bloom (looks almost excacly like the ones in your 2. post): So this one was very easy to identify. If you have other roses I will try to identify those too.

Thanks guys! I agree that Scentimental is much more likely for a place like Lowe's and I did detect something of a fragrance I think on the rose, but my nose is unreliable and apparently the scent can vary a lot. The photos on hmf vary a lot too, but some of them have this mostly white with red/pink stripes like this does. At least I can testify that it blows like the wind and has rampant blackspot, verging on damask crud at the bottom, so all of that would fit Scentimental so far. I have a spot I can put it that would give it some relief from the heat and still enough air circulation to cut down on the BS. Cynthia
