Sorry to hear. It's rough that this is when the summer garden is just starting to really turn on for the year.

If only the leaves are shredded, the plants will probably recover if you leave them be. I've had my garden torn up by a straight line wind and most everything recovered. If the main stems are broken, you may not have as good of a recovery.

I'd start by pulling out any plant debris that isn't still attached to a plant and then re-survey.

But it's early enough in the year to replant anything you feel won't make it. If you aren't sure, you could always inter-plant the new seeds while waiting to see how the older plants do.

I'm so sorry! Hail can be so devastating....I hope that you didn't have any damage to your roof or vehicles.

I'd not do any cutting just yet. Allow the plant to use those leaves, even though they might be shredded, to provide the energy (from photosynthesis) needed for repair. Plants have a natural response to damage...they will put out new growth to replace the bad. But they need the energy factories (leaves) in order to produce it.

Begin to clip away stuff that actually begins to die, but not before.
