Problem with J&P Order

I hope somebody can give me some advice on this! For my birthday, I ordered two roses from J&P - Bishop's Castle and Ruffled Cloud. Both are supposed to come own-root, in containers. Well, I called J&P to find out the status of my order. Turns out, due to weather, they won't be shipping til Oct. 1! I was very upset at them, because they should have notified me about this right away (of course, they had already charged my card, too). Anyway, I'm concerned because I am in zone 6, NJ. If they ship my roses Oct. 1, is it going to be safe to plant them out? Is it going to be too late/too cold? (Actually they did not even guarantee to ship by Oct.1. AND they refuse to send me an email when the roses actually do ship, saying instead that I must call and check with them! Dreadful customer service, if you ask me. Too bad I really want those roses, and they are the only ones who carry them!)
