Despite what you've written, I suspect it may be a light issue. Aspidistras do better in low light than most other plants, but there are limits. If the light is too low, it may maintain itself for quite some time, but it won't grow. This is after all, a plant used in outdoor landscapes, where shade is equivalent to a sunny spot in our homes. In the area where you keep your plant, can you read a newspaper (or other smallish print) without turning on a light for most of the day? If the area is too dim to read in, it is probably too dim for your plant to put out new growth. Move it to a somewhat brighter spot, without direct sun.

Looking for Aspidistra (aka Cast iron plant) for a low light indoor seeting. Haven't had much luck finding it in stores here in Ontario. If anyone has some aspidistra tuber/rootstock, or even a small offset plant, to trade, I can offer to cover postage, or trade a cutting from one f my plants or seeds. Thanks for your replies. Maybe I can get a few suggestions. One side of our lot is separated from our neighbor by a row of very big oaks along with a split rail fence the length of the yard. The first half is across from the garage, and unfortunately that's our 'utility' area. Unfortunatly, that neigbor has their back yard facing in our direction and we are somewhat down hill. The oaks shade the entire space up to the house so there is no ground cover, but we have informal bushes along side the house. We have to keep the plantings within 2'-4' because we park our trailer there. Oh ya, the ground slopes down from the tree line about 2' within 8' and then pretty much levels off. In the area past the house line I'm building a shade garden and going for the tropical look. The question: How to create a screen that doesn't become a wall. The neighbors would like to maintain a feeling of space as we do too. I'm thinking of nandina as I can get that free also but would a mix of nandina and cast iron work? I could also incorporate a vine on a trelis but I dont know what would enhance the look as there's so much shade. A little of very early morning and late evening sun dapples in for some of the row. Also, how would I blend that thin row of bushes into a very unformal garden? I do have on hand an eleagnus that is some what vining and has a large splotch of yellow on the leaf, and a varigated akieba. I could have them attach to some thing that would only look like they are climbing the trees because they belong to the neigbor.

I am delighted to announce that both the original aspidistra plant and the offshoot I planted in a different pot are exhibiting new growth. For the record, I put them in a north facing window where they receive light but not direct light, give them one cup of water every 12-13 days, and left them alone. It seems July is the growing season for these plants, because it is also around this time last year that they put out new leaves. As for your yellowing Sans2014, I'm not sure what's causing it but I did find a pretty good site here where they may answer your question: http://www.ourhouseplants.com/plants/aspidistra From reading that site, it seems your problem could be caused by too cold temps (unlikely in July), too frequent repotting, or most likely overwatering. I water mine every 12-13 days and this is in July in Las Vegas, where temps in my apartment can reach 90 if i turn the A/C off before going to work. If you leave in a cooler climate, I wouldn't water it more than every two weeks, maybe even less.
