Do I Need to Disbud REALLY Vigorous Young Roses?

fogrose

I recently received a band of Elie Beauvilian from Vintage around 9/20 and put it into a 1 gal pot to grow on over the winter. The plant immediately took off and put on a good amount of top growth and even has 4 buds. I had intended to let one bloom and then disbud. Imagine my surprise when I went to check on it yesterday and the roots were already peeking out of the drainage holes of the new pot. I've now put it into a 2 gal pot.

So my question is do I really need to disbud such a vigorous rose that seems to be growing by leaps and bounds? It breaks my heart to lose even one flower. I can see the wisdom for plants that are slow to put on growth at the expense of flowering like Annie Laurie McDowell but what about those roses that grow really fast? I've also got a new plant of ORG Renae Seedling that's in the same category as Elie.

Your opinions please.

Diane
