Anyone grow 'Sweet Intoxication?' plus, late season chlorosis

Of course I did a very naughty thing and bought five more roses because they were only 8 bucks at the garden center! 'Sweet Intoxication' is a new J&P rose, but it was in full Fall flush and was very clean, disease-wise. And the fragrance is very sexy.

I bought three.

Now can someone tell me how they do for them?

Plus, I was a very bad rose-mom this summer and nothing got fed. Some are showing chlorosis, but I don't want to give a full fertilizer treatment this late in the year. Should I give them some low-dose nitrogen or just let them hang on unitl Spring?

Maybe what your seeing with your rose leaves is the natural process of them getting ready for fall/winter???
Rose leaves are just starting to do the same thing here, along with trees, shrubs, etc.
Not sure i'd want to add nitrogen to the soil in your zone this late in the season?
Hopefully others will chime in for you and give there opinions.

Posting this from England. The only Clerodendron trichotomum I have seen is so stunning that it made my head turn every time I passed. It is in a garden on the outskirts of Weymouth, a very sunny seaside town in the south of England. It was both the leaves and flowers that attracted me. The leaves were very pale in colour and made the small tree stand out. Eventually I stopped and asked what it was and ended up being given a sucker plant. This is growing well inland but the leaves have remained green so far. Checking the parent plant earlier in the season, that was fully green. There is certainly no ill effect from the lightening leaves which presumably is what you are referring to. I would be pleased if mine followed suit, so if, as you say, you find it attractive, as I do, I really wouldn't worry. My opinion, for what it's worth, is that it is caused by long hours of sunshine. Weymouth is the sunniest place in the UK.

Yeah it is easy to overlook these old threads. Sorry for that, Questions: "Would that sound successful for Sweet 100's? Should there be 1 or 2 per container?" Possible but it depends on height of the balcony and how much tying and training you want to do. They are an exceptionally huge plant so I suggest you do not do any lower level pruning on it as that will only make it grow taller. If worst comes to worst you may have to cut off the very top of the plant if it gets too unmanageable. And you will need lots of string for tying. 1 plant per container only. My problem is that the leaves are getting yellow and I don't know what's wrong. Please do share your tips and advice. Thank you! I also just transported them from a small rectangular box planter tho this one here. Yellowing leaves is almost always related to watering issues - usually too much - or lack of nutrient issues is the second most common cause. Plants in containers consistently have over-watering issues and nutrient issues because the nutrients wash out of the container every time you water and they have to be replaced regularly. But if you just moved a plant this huge into this new container then the odds are it is suffering from severe transplant shock. Plants this size do NOT take to transplanting at all well. Dave

Anyone growing Sweet summer love clematis

We've had 'sweet summer love' for four years now. I'm not sure if it bloomed the first year or not. The second and third years it grew large and bloomed like crazy. This year, year four, it is even larger. However, there is one major problem. This clematis is a huge japanese beetle magnet. We only had a few beetles in recent years, so they weren't a problem, but this year the beetles are terrible. Every day, hundreds of them eat all the blooms of this clematis. They've shredded them all. There are so many beetles on this thing, it's like flies on a pile of meat. If beetles are going to be this numerous every year, which is likely, then this clematis will be worthless and will have to be replaced with another kind beetles don't like. We have several others and they don't touch them. 'Sweet summer love' is quite fragrant and looks like an insect-attracting plant, unlike the other kinds.

Both Molokai and Grand Asia tend to produce super size roots. I love it. But most consumers prefer smaller roots. You'll notice, when the grocery store is trying to sell the leftovers, after a holiday, they are usually the larger roots. That they produce really large roots means, that in reality, these are really early varieties. Sweet potato roots just keep growing as long as they are on the plant and it is growing. So, if I was pressed to produce a crop, and I waited until, say, the third week of July to plant slips, one of these would probably be a good choice. Here's a picture of the largest root, so far, this year. I suspect this is it. No other variety will outdo this on. I'm about 2/3 through digging now.

Jim, thanks. It's un-addressed at this time, due to my crazycrazy life. We are moving, though, so likely the plan will be to deal with it in the Spring if we still own the house.

I'm getting a little bit of chlorosis also, from the top down, on Gemini, Tahitian Sunset, and Electron. I haven't done anything about it since it's getting into the 50's here at night and I figure the season is nearing its end. It's hard to resist the urge to do something; I don't want to concede to the arrival of fall.

We had some nights in the 40's/50's, then a heat-wave struck very recently with 2 days of 90 degrees.
Now, it's colded off suddenly again, so, swings like that have to play havoc with leaves also. lol
Yep, fall is here flaurabunda.
