Okay folks. Since iVillage is evidently having PROBLEMS with their server or something, here is a new thread ref: the spring swap - as well as a link to the old thread that is WAY out of order!

For those of you who have asked for details on swaps(somewhere, before they moved everything this week) - the swap is where we meetat a physical location, have lunch, and swap plants. Last year was my first one, had a blast, met everyone in PERSON, and got great plants, plus got rid of some too!

For you newbies - create/update your trade list, and look at other people's trade lists (on the "MY Page" for each person. Most people do pre-arranged trades i think, but then everyone also brings extras STUFF.

Literllay - last year - we couldn't see out the back of my SUV it was so full with what TweetyPye & I were bringing home.

Oh yes, and i think there is normally one in Bham, as well as a Southern Swap down around Mobile. And, we are talking about having one in Central AL, maybe in the fall.

Did we ever officially decide on whether it is gonna be 4/29 or 5/6? Will it be Oak Mountain again? Etc., etc.

Hi All! I see a lot of votes for the last weekend of April and the first weekend of May. I also see a lot of folks that cannot come those very same weekends. How about May 20 or April 22? I would say May 13, but selfish me would be out of town that weekend. Would either of those dates accomodate everyone better?

HI,all! This is my first time posting myself. James ususally does it. Granny we will be bringing some of the Gold Nuggets Lamium with us. Allison we should have a few starts if your friend wants some. It is gold with a white stripe down the middle and has I think pinkish purple flowers. It stays nice all winter. We got the original from Franklin Park Conservatory. Bev James doesn't remember bringing that type of tomato. The poppies and lavender sound good to me. We have been out potting and weeding this morning. We have ready to go... golden tiara hostas bressingham blue hosta stilletto hosta un named varieties of hosta centuria montana zebra grass dwarf zebra grass gold nuggets lamium anne greenaway lamium lilacs(white) ostrich ferns japanese painted ferns vinca minor varigated stargazer lilies crimson pixie lilies crimson pirate daylily and probably a few more things. We have a small swap in Stasburg the week before. I also sent the swap info to my brother who had some people from his church interested. Can't wait to see you all... Michelle

I've decided some of my daylilies' colors just aren't working for my garden color schemes. I could bring two Klehm daylilies if someone is interested. 'Smooth Vanilla Pastel' and 'Afternoon Tea Time.' I'd say Smooth Vanilla Pastel is really a creamy daylily with a strong chartreuse/green throat. And Afternoon Tea Time is essentially sherbet orange. They are nice, healthy plants in great condition, and they have spent the last year in my garden, enjoying a good compost-enriched soil. My yard has no daylily rust, and these plants seem free of it as well. If those would be good in your garden, let me know! At this point, I am looking for healthy shade shrubs for my back yard -- viburnums, pretty azaleas, hydrangeas, or things that can take DRY shade would be great, and a few shade perennials -- possibly asarums, carex, hakone grass -- or ...? PLANT SWAP DETAILS THE 20006 SPRING PLANT SWAP is APRIL 29 from 12:00-3:00 at the SOUTH PAVILIION OF WILL ROGERS PARK in northwest OKC at NW 30th and Portland. This is the same location as last years spring and fall swaps in "the castle." A map to the sited is linked at the bottom of this post. It looks like it may rain, but the "castle" has enclosed areas. EVEN IF IT RAINS THE SWAP IS STILL ON. I got the key yesterday, and checked to make sure it worked. My interenet access outside of work is limited. I may not be able to answer emails after 5:00 today. So if you have questions about the swap your are welcome to email me, but it is recommended that you post here. There will be someone who can answer your questions. Hopefully, I've covered most questions with this post. I wouldn't want anyone to not come because they were unsure about something. The swap is an informal get-together. Most gardeners bring plants they have in excess or extra seedlings they have started as they prepared their gardens. Many people arrange trades in advance, but it is not required. Don't worry about not having much to bring. There are always "extras". Bring what you can and enjoy some gardening talk. There will be refreshments potluck style and door prizes. The picnic tables will be used for both refreshements, plants and most importantly People! There are power and water available. Stocked restrooms are on site. Help with food/set-up and clean-up are always welcome. Remember, we're calling it a plant swap, but it's really about GARDENERS. Experienced gardeners and newbies. Don't worry if you don't have a lot to trade. Come meet us and enjoy some garden talk. Your garden will probably grow a little too. There haven't been a lot a posts as to what everyone is bringing to eat, but with potlucks it is always fun to be surprised. There is always plenty of food. If you can't decide what to bring, just bring your speciality or whatever travels well (chips, cookies, etc). We still need a VOLUNTEER to bring ICE. If anyone can think of anything that has been forgotten- just volunteer to bring it! For those who have posted, here's a reminder of what you are bringing: soonercel: soda and a potluck item mrsfrodo: chicken salad and some rolls. skeered me too! Amy, the swap last year really was fun, but Bobbie is prez of the Ovilla Garden Club this year, so she's too "scheduled" to have one at her home this year. BUT We're having a swap in Ft Worth April 7 (see the thread on this forum). This is the Texas Forum's annual Spring Swap, & it's lots of fun. There're always lots of people & tons of plants & garden things, & the Botanic Gardens are just across the street if you still have the strength to visit them after our "Spring Break" garden frenzy! & the Ovilla Garden Club has one in Ovilla June 2,(there's a thread about it, too) at the City Park. We can trade or sell, as long as we buy the $4 box lunch that they sell to fund their projects. & I know she'd love for you to come take a tour thru her gardens. She gave me permission to post her phone # (it's on the Ovilla thread.) email me at sylviaboardwalk@aol.com if you want more info. I do have some irises, some named, some mysteries, that I'd be happy to bring you. Just let me know.

I like May 20th. Let's try a later swap and see how it works out. The later the better for me because I will have more stuff up and growing which I can swap. April is a busy month for me because I am pulling stuff out of the greenhouse, repotting, fertilizing and generally preparing for the growing season. I begin the first of April and my goal is to finish repotting by May 1. - Terry

May 20th is fine for me, any date other than 4\29. I like the later date also because more stuff will be coming up and easier to find.

Rosey...First let me thank you for posting this link since the 'exchanges' thing seems to be out.

It's been about 2 years since I attended a trade with this forum. And I can't wait to do this!! I have so much more to trade with than I did back then. I will go update my trade list right now.

I did not get to go to the fall swap with my husband being in the hospital. I had set up trades and will bring them to the spring swap.
Jill -- bring blue hosta for white amaryllis

Susan -- bring cinnamon iris for variegated sedum
Sharon -- bring Scheffelera, spider basket, bromeliad for decorated bowling ball
Nelson -- Coreopsis and tropical from Michelle for blk iris

The only one I have set up so far for the spring swap is Nelson so please just let me know if any of you want something I have. I'm going to update the list later as I go through all the flower beds and check the shrubs. I want to bring rooted plants not cuttings. I'm already finding things I forgot about!!!
