Where to buy a Pretty Jessica that isn't the size of a band?

Like what the subject says; Where to buy a Pretty Jessica that isn't the size of a band?

I really want one but can't find any online that are larger than a band. I bought 5 bands earlier this year and I no longer have such a patience unless I'm forced to buy a band. Please let me know, thank you!

I bought mine several years ago either at Roses Unlimited (nice sized healthy own-root roses in a pot and often in bloom when you receive them) or from Orion Farms in Minnesota (healthy large grafted bare-root roses). My brain is fuzzy right now, but I think it was from Orion Farms. Since I always bury the grafts, I cannot tell now whether mine is grafted or not.

I never have bought a band. Know I wouldn't have the patience to wait and watch. LOL

Brian, I don't know whether your pot up your bands into larger containers but here in north San Diego County I never do but plant them right away and within a few months most of them are growing and blooming. I don't care if they're small for a while as long as they bloom and most of them do. I water them very frequently and mulch them heavily and it works for me.

I love PRETTY JESSICA very much. This petite beauty belongs in the front of a flower bed or gracing a big, fancy pot. Mine has topped out at perhaps 2 feet, which is just fine with me. She has everything that I'm looking for: beautiful color (lilac outer petals blushed rich cherry pink in the middle), perfect OGR flower form, good strong stems, long vase life, intense fragrance, reliable repeat bloom, and nice shapely shrub. Her only fault is that the foliage needs some spraying, but by no means is she a blackspot disaster. Mine has lovely foliage and I only spray her about once every three weeks. Practically perfect in every way. At least in my Maryland zone 6b climate.

Heirloom Roses offers PRETTY JESSICA, although they are currently out of stock. I've been very frustrated with the David Austin people over this rose. They claim it is weak. I disagree. It is one of the better short English Roses for the Eastern United States. The plant is fully hardy in zone 5, is vigorous on its own roots (something that can't be said for many roses), repeats well, and has drop dead gorgeous flowers that are sinfully fragrant. Yes the foliage will get black spot here in black spot hell but so does every other English Rose. I remember reading somewhere that David Austin considers Wife of Bath as his best short pink. Well I guess so if you can put up with the obnoxious myrrh fragrance. Among the Old Garden Roses take a look at Souvenir de la Malmaison and its deeper pink sport Capitaine Dyel de Graville. By all means, keep Pretty Jessica. I don't remember mine doing much of anything its first couple years, but it is now (about 7 years later) big and strong and beautiful -- and very BS RESISTANT! And a good re-bloomer. Definitely, get her out in the sun. Mine is no longer a small plant. She is about 3.5 ft tall, maybe even approaching 4 ft tall. And healthy as a horse! Here she is a couple years ago, lots of buds and look at those healthy (non-sprayed) leaves. These buds are probably a year or so later. Aren't they fat and full? Lots of blooms and buds on this girl. Here's a fully open lovely bloom--and look at all that healthy (non-sprayed) foliage! Pretty Jessica is planted by my backdoor steps. It is a real pleasure to greet her several times a day as I wander in and out to the garden. In case you didn't get the message, be patient with your young Jessica. In a couple more years, you will be bragging about her! Don't know if it matters, but mine is grafted--but I no longer remember where I bought her so can't tell you on what. Kate

The color is correct but I also question others are truly PJ because her blooms, for me, remain cupped up until the petals drop. Kate, is yours grafted or own root? I have 2 own root from Heirloom that have only reached 2 - 2 1/2 feet but this is only their 3rd season. I wouldn’t mind them growing a bit larger.

Pickering has it grafted on Multiflora (which does fine in Orange County, BTW) -- my suggestion (and David Austin's) is to buy 3 and plant them together in a small grouping. That way you don't need any patience. You might want to call them. Their website says it is too late for Fall ordering now, but I ordered earlier in Sept and have a shipment coming FedEx ground on 11/3/09. So you never know - they might accomodate you.

Pickering has them. I've always gotten nice roses from them. You can order now for spring shipment.
