unfading yellow and/or apricot roses?

All the yellow roses fade in my hot TN sun. I especially love the Austin roses but so far Golden Celebration, GT, and Jude have all faded.

Any suggestions for unfading, preferably disease resistant yellow and/or apricot roses would be appreciated.

When you say 'fade'....do you mean fade to white...or no fade at all??

My Julia Child blooms fade to a nice soft yellow (NOT white-yellow) while new blooms are a bit richer. I find the mix gives the plant depth.

Ronda, thanks for replying.

The roses I mentioned fade as soon as they open. Graham Thomas is quite pale here...almost an ivory/yellow...except in the coolest weather (which has been rare) when it is a lovely yellow/apricot. Jude opens to an ivory shade, also except on the coolest of days, when it does have quite a bit of color.

I'd like a rose that stays yellow after it opens, even in the hot sun. Gradual fading I don't mind. In fact, I prefer the softer effect of varying shades on the same plant. I would just like to see some yellow where my yellow roses are planted.

Also, I'd need them to be reliably hardy.

I can tell you that on the east coast in Brooklyn New York, Crepuscule is just about perfect. In fact, I just cut the hell out of it because it's growing into the neighboring garden. It took a few years to get going but once it did it just grows in all directions. It kind of mounds on itself - just about as wide as tall. As of now it's about eight feet or so in all directions. This winter we had more than usual dieback but I don't think it was from cold so much as snow load - we had a few really heavy snowfalls that broke a number of tree limbs and rose canes. I don't have any other noisettes because I was afraid they'd get too big. But another yellow, Isabella Sprunt, is going to rival Crepuscule for size this summer. It's not as mounding a plant, more of a twiggy thing, but much bigger than I ever imagined it would ever be. So there are 2 yellow / apricot roses that might work for you. We're pretty humid over here - we're at sea level after all, and we have wet winters that seem to be getting colder in spite of global warming. Nonetheless, while everything else blackspots or dies, these 2 roses are much hardier than given credit for.

I adore my Honeysweet. Most unusual color, no blackspot for me, blooms lots. Its a Buck rose and tough. One of my favorite apricots is the Austin Carding Mill. I understand Chamblees will be carrying that soon own root - I plan to get several. I adore Fragrant Apricot [Roses Unlimited]. I had Belle Epoque a while back but wasn't that crazy about the color. When it died, I wasn't interested in replacing it, but that was just my opinion - you might love it. I adore apricots and love the pure, clear color such as Carding Mill, Tamora, Just Joey. If I ever ran across a good plant of Just Joey I would get it - have seen photos of huge blooms, but understand the bush is gangly. The blooms would make up for it........

Ah! Golden Celebration was first on my list! That makes sense. I've looked through the David Austin roses before, but I know nothing at all - now that I have a bit more understanding (as it's similar to the yellow rose) I'll be able to narrow my focus. Queen Elizabeth doesn't seem to fit. It's very pink. This rose (which, I know, I have no good pictures of) is closer to David Austin's Valentine Heart for colour and shape. Teasing Georgia definitely works in Florida. I have 2. They bloom all the time, foliage stays nice and green, old fashioned beautiful yellow blooms. They are so tough, they sat in brackish water a couple days when we flooded, they actually went on a growth spurt. They loved it! lol, whereas a lot of my other roses either pouted or died. The yellow color varies a little with the weather here. Is darker gold in cooler temps and lighter during the summer. I like how she blooms in clusters. I don't spray here because I've worked hard trying to attract beneficial insects and we have lots of little native green tree frogs which are endangered here due to the Cuban Tree Frogs eating them. Pat Austin is another excellent choice. I also have 2 of them. Definitely a workhorse, blooming pretty much daily. Bees and butterflies love TG and Pat as well. TG cooler weather TG Softer baby yellow summer temp colors..note the nice green leaves even when it steams up and rains every day..I dont spray anything, ever in my garden. Pat Austin The little tree frogs adore her. They like to hide in her blossoms and eat bugs that are attracted to her lol. Her leaves also stay green. Sometimes Pat's newly opened blooms remind me of a waterlily! Another frog lol

The Austin roses are not bred to hold their color. Many of them actually do fade badly over time. I have found these to hold their color reasonably well: Goldmarie, Aperitif, Tivoli Gardens, Elina, Lemon Spice, Hopi Girl, Sunsprite, Phyllis Diller, Golden Holstein, Sterntaler/Golden Fairy Tale, Midas Touch, and Gold Heart. Some are more available than others, but this list is the best of the ones I have.

Midas Touch, Henry Fonda and Honey Perfume all hold their color well for me. I live in Zone 8 and have no problem even with the heat and direct sun on them all day. Golden Celebration, on the other hand, fades fairly quickly.
