My droll remarks on spray or no spray were a snide attempt to say-don't wanna hear it-the product and advice are available to have clean roses..I will have to spray on Monday the 22 of Oct.as Tuesday morning we are getting on 441 and heading to the most remote place in lower 48-Kentucky.
Going to London and then East on DB.parkway.Hope to see at least one not green leaf.

Um....Pete....take a look at the drought moniter. See how dry KY is. Esp along DB.
Some leaves are already dropped. A few (Hickories) colored up rite nice before they dropped. Others just gave up.
Maybe the rain they are getting right now will give them a couple of weeks more life.

Time zone difference but a sox fan probably wouldn't be aware of them.lol

Petie, I don't know where you live in Florida but Kentucky is in the Eastern time zone. Kentucky is the most remote? Have you heard of West Virginia?

Head North up to Vermont. The best foliage in the U.S. and good cheese and syrup. What more could you want?

Speaking of foliage, I am seriously for jail time or extensive community service for anyone who says "fol-age." This is worse than nuc-u-lar. At first I thought it was just DH's Aunt (ant in Kentucky) but then I thought it was all Kentucky-folk. Then I went to place an order with ARE and they also said "fol-age" Do they not notice an I in the word? Something must be done about this! Pete will be the new President of the FOLIAGE committee.

Just happen to have a travel atlas and Bowling Green and points west and north are Central Time Zone. Eastern/Central time change is just west of Louisville.

Good cheese is to be found in Sweetwater TN. Good sorgham in many places in TN.
And not the aggravation of driving in congested New England, nor the paying of tolls to use interstate highways.
The way words are pronounced is a regional thing. Some think regional accents are charming. Others don't. No biggie.

I say fol-age, but I don't say Flore-da.

The leaf-watching certainly would be better in the non-droughty East, but maybe Pete isn't allowed back in Pennsylvania.

Michael is right, Pete, it might not be a good foliage season this year. One of our trees in the back is drying up, leaves falling off without changing color.

The most beautiful foliage display is in Montana[some years].Trouble is you have to climb to the top of the Bridger mountains.Then you can look down on Bridger canyon with the aspens,Indian paint brush and all kinds of deciduous trees and bushes,above that evergreens rimmed with snow capped mountains.
The time I saw that I topped out and looked over the rim and said``Oh,my God'' and stood there for fifteen minutes or so looking at a sight beyond belief.Then it was time to start down and I can't get up there on top of the world anymore.

I will admit to juggling a business trip (or two) to Denver in fall to coinicide with Aspen color. And it was worth the juggling.
Working in Houston meant that aside from one small maple near the office that changes leaf color in late December, there were years when the only foliage color we'd see would be when flying over the east coast and looking down at the mountains...

MichaelG, in South Florida it is pronounced Fla'-rida with a nasally New Jersey accent, or Fla-rider (Brooklyneese) I'm with the foliage with the i camp. How about 'variegated.'That's not a term that comes up much on the rose forum but I guess there are a couple of variegated leaf roses out there. Pete, it's just fun to get away, color or no. We went to Arkansas a couple of years ago to stay by the mighty Buffalo River, but it was completly dried up (or nearly) from the drought. We had a good time anyway.

The real key to a Kentuckian is how they pronounce Louisville. Louisville is my hometown, and when someone pronounces it Lou-EE-ville I know that they have never lived there nor paid attention to the locals if they have visited. The tri-state area of Kentucky, Tennessee and southern Indiana can have some beautiful fall foliage.
