I've only had mine part of a season. It cleans old blooms up neatly for me. I haven't seen the "long wayward" canes yet, but its still such a baby. If you love the sunset colors, the rose has it all.

As far as I know, roses with ADR certificate should be self-cleaning in addition to their being disease resistant. Grimm brothers Fairy tale has ADR certificate, so they should be what you want.

I do not grow this rose, so I cannot vouch for it, but those I grow from the 'fairy tale' series are very disease resistant (I didn't spray them so far) however they are not self- cleaning and probably thatÂs why they do not have ADR certificate. So again, I would assume that the Grimm brothers rose should be self-cleaning.

However, you may want to double-check and call Palatine and ask. Or Pickering, I think this year they also offer this rose.

I got one from Palatine this season, and it started out nice and small and gave me a few blooms. Now it's sending out these massive arching canes (I even checked to see if they are suckers and they aren't) that are still going beyond 8ft with no blooms in sight. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. It's still in a 5gal pot. Guess I'll put it along the fence when I start the next bed.

Grimm Brothers FT and Petticoat FT have both proven to be rather weak-stemmed for the heavy late-summer bloom. I only have 4' long canes, not the 8 footers that beth has. I love the color of Grimm and the scent of Petticoat. Both are prolific bloomers.

Mine is a sprawler here in SoCal.

There was an article in the Chicago Tribune home and garden section about Kordes roses several months ago. I thought it said that fairy tale roses are not hardy in zone 5.

I have this one along with the Gelber Engel/Yellow Angel. Both want to throw long canes that will reach about 6 ft if you let them. Its growth habit is more like a small climber that wants to flop over. The Brothers Grimm is fairly healthy. I haven't seen a lot of blackspot on it although it will if you don't spray it. Yellow Angel will blackspot worse than Brothers Grimm. The color on Brothers Grimm is variable. The last flower, as in 1, was like Beth's picture, quite orange with a yellow reverse, but the color is not consistent throughout the summer. In the heat of summer it is more pink with a lighter yellow reverse. I typically do not see any large sprays. This is my second year with this rose. It survived the Easter freeze without too much problem, but like most of my others, it showed some stress all through the growing season. I don't see that hardiness would be a problem with this rose.

Thank you for the feedback. If there is one thing that irritates me the most is the tendency of some 'shrub' roses, especially Austins to throw out these long never ending canes that I have no idea what to do with. I will have to pass Brothers Grimm.
