You are willing to make a decision after one month? Wow, a harsh master you are! Some people think it could take 3 years for a rose to come into its own. I have learned that is true from experience. Lucky for me I didn't shovel prune Tequila Sunrise in the early years. It's one of my best now.
French Lace needs some attention and likes to be fertilized when more mature. Don't be put off by spindly growth. The blooms are just fine although not huge. Mine blooms in definite huge flushes and likes to be deadheaded. I think it is a good rose and would probably be happier in your climate, which isn't as hot and hellish as mine. Hope you give it a chance.

I agree. Give the rose time to adjust to your soil. Some roses need time to transition. Who knows what conditions were like at the nursery. Soon thoes new canes will grow and give you the big beautiful roses you saw when you bought it. At least wait until next spring when the first blossoms come on to decide.

Remember also that nurseries will debud and feed their roses to make larger display blooms.

Don't feed French Lace any more Bayer All in One and see if it improves this autumn. I don't know this for sure, but remember a recent post from one of our more scientific-minded gardeners who mentioned some literature indicating that one of the Bayer all-in-one type products tends to produce smaller blooms.

Instead of the Bayer all-in-one, try feeding your French Lace something like Rose Tone (or one of the other "Tones")--or use Miracle Gro-- and, if needed, spray with Bayer Advanced Garden Disease Control (fungicide only).

Why don't you experiment and let us know the results?

My Pink French Lace gets the same treatment as everybody else - a system of benign neglect that has been in place in the garden for years. Her blooms are gorgeous, and they stay that way on the bush for weeks - sometimes 2 weeks for a bloom! her leaves are clean too - a good bush all around.

I have seen smaller than usual blooms on many of my roses
when the temps go up-smaller, less petals, or thinner
than usual petals. I bet it will be beautiful next
spring.

a Beauty in Spring a Beauty in Fall a dog in Summer and worth it for spring and Fall. My friend Wihelmina said that all roses with this habit should be pruned back by half after Spring so you can skip the Summer problems and have a happy Fall in this roses case I agree. In summer here there is never a single leaf left on her but in Fall the blooms take on a deeper shading in the cooler temperatures.

I guess it depends on where you grow her. Here she is drop-dead gorgeous all the time, but then, we give her at least 4" of water per week, rain or shine, and feed her once a month with something.

Wow, thanks so much guys for all the advice. I guess I am a harsh master for sure, but only because I have had other roses that continued to bloom with gorgeous blooms right after planting and was disapointed with this one not being the same. But I will most certainly give her a year at least and see. I also didn't know they disbudded the roses at the nurseries to get the huge ones, how do you do that? I'd like to do it once and a while to get the really big blooms, I think 3 of them beats 10 smaller ones once and a while. So I will protect her this winter and see if she comes back, if so will see how she does next year. Thanks everyone for all the comments. And especially thanks for the pictures, just gorgeous, you've convinced me to keep her.
