your favorite Austin rose?
Comments (36)All my favorites are being listed here, and for those of us who are DA rose lovers I really don't think I have a favorite. I currently have; Abraham Darby, Golden Celebration, Queen of Sweden, Heathcliff, Glamis Castle, Lady of Shallott, and Munstead Wood. Out of that group, five of them are show-stopping stunners: Abraham Darby- HUGE blooms- pink/apricot in color, and very fragrant, Golden Celebration- Again- HUGE blooms, deep golden yellow, that morphs into a creamy yellow. The fragrance of GC is incredible! If you have a bouquet in your house, you will smell it from yards away! Next I would go with Lady of Shallott. The color is a vibrant apricot color- that is hard to describe, but it's a prolific grower, and you will get many blooms, and it's diseases resistant too! One rose that hasn't been mentioned here is "Heathcliff." His blooms are HUGE! He is an upright rose, and very disease resistant. His color is a deep magenta/fuchsia color. His fragrance is unique and not overpowering. Next I would go to Munstead Wood. Everything people say about this rose is absolutely true! The color is stunning! It runs a deep garnet-purple color, and is absolutely stunning! Truth be told- you cannot go wrong with buying a DA Rose. It is worth every single penny you invest, and it will last you for years and years. I have been growing them now for about 15 years, and I HAVE to get a new one each year! Comments (8)Wow, Riku, you got some really nice roses! I noticed the large number of Ralph Moore's roses. They also have Sharon's Delight which is a really nice smaller rose. I'm glad you were able to get in early and get the roses you wanted. Even though I don't have any room, I'm still constantly looking :-) Stefan, I like their new format too. It's much easier to see what roses they have without endless scrolling through page after page. They also have a box you can check to pull up just their new offerings. Comments (12)Mauirose and Kim: Thanks for the info on Lady Emma Hamilton. I'm going to look for that one next year. Carla: How has the rebloom been on LEH? I agree with you completely about Crown Princess Margareta. Although the first bare root David Austin sent of CPM this spring I wasn't satisfied with. I called and told them it was unacceptable (smallest bare root I've ever seen, drier than a husk) the replacement they sent me was a mutant monster. I had to ask my husband to dig the hole for that baby because of how huge it was. It was grown really well this summer with nice rebloom. I'd buy Crown Princess Margareta again in a heartbeat. Comments (6)Mine's in its third year and is grafted. The first two years were slow and it basically did pretty much nothing. This year, it leapt out of the ground and is about 5' tall and 3' wide. The bush is just covered in fragrant blossoms all summer long and don't bleach out in the sun like some purples are prone to do. Just be prepared to give MM lots of real estate....See Morecarolfm
