Comments (12)Duh, catrose...I totally missed the line where you told me to move it in the fall-sorry ;) Rosefolly, I agree with you about the height in the flower bed. As you said, the garden and all it's surroundings are flat. Having a farm field for a backdrop is kind of a challenge. One year it will be 8' tall corn, the next it's 2' tall soybeans. And, that's the small side of the yard, the photo taken from the porch. It's a huge bed with a LOT of plants in it, but it gets lost. And, of course, it needs lots more plants! This bed has been a real life lesson for me. Started out as a shade bed, due to the huge old maple tree. When an ice storm took that out, plans changed. It's kinda turned into a metaphor for life, ya know? The stump won't be there forever, time will go on, and it will continue to evolve. At some point, I plan to put a tree in the yard at the back of the bed (that'll be a shade bed SOMEDAY, lol!) and after I'm dead and gone my ashes will be scattered there. From then on, it's someone else's problem ;) I have a rose called 'Pearly Gates' that is currently growing with a clematis 'Pearle d'Azure' and the clematis is winning. That might work there, it doesn't get nearly as big as V. My Vielchenblau seems pretty happy, and I don't really want the stump engulfed. The color of the moss on an overcast day is gorgeous, and plays off plants so well. I'm enjoying the thoughts and input..sometimes a fresh eye is called for! Brenda...See MoreNematodes
Comments (1)Ibains I'm not really sure what damage they do but you can always try it out they really arent that expensive and it would be an interesting experiment and they would be annuals for you but close to the house they may live they some times do here....See MoreRoot-knob nematodes
Comments (4)So, Northaven Gardens recommends beneficial nematodes, but they'll take a couple of months to kill off the bad nematodes. So, I guess I'm sticking the seed packages in the fridge and waiting out the fall/winter crop.... :( I don't have enough pots OR potting soil to make a decent fall/winter crop. Maybe the Winter/Spring crop will make up for it????...See MoreDriving Fears?
Comments (38)I fear the lack of abilities and fearless mentality of other drivers but I don't let it stop me. I prefer to call what I do defensive driving. I can take care of myself; it's keeping track of all the morons who think it's alright to drive like a maniac who frighten me. WHen I was young and dumb I considered myself fearless. Now I know it's better to be a smart driver than a brave one. There are two ways to the city from my house; route one is freeway all the way (except thirty miles on a good, two lane road). Route two is over a mountain pass. In bad weather (especially bad weather) I will choose the mountain pass all the time. Why? It's not because I'm not afraid. I have great respect for the elements and understand the need for skill. I drive that mountain because I know there will be few cars on the road and I won't have to concentrate on staying out of the bravado drivers and concentrate on myself and my passengers. Fearless in my mind is the same as saying 'no sense or respect-it's either my way or else'. I don't like driving in the city but I've learned you have to be quick and decisive, which I am. But I still use my head; heavy city traffic is no time to be drive like a bully. I believe 'fearless' is what gang members think they are, isn't it? Unafraid of anything? Ready to take anything down that crosses their path? Lori...See Morefloridarosez9 Morgan
