Tradescant: Pillar or Trellis?
Comments (18)Thanks for your kind response, sandandsun. That is very helpful information. It really is fascinating to see how each variety of rose develops, isn't it? The various colors of the new growth, which ones are the first to leaf out, the ones who will bloom in the heat, etc. As for your comment about being a true gardener, I don't know! lol I'm just a guy who recently moved to San Antonio and is starting a garden from scratch again, more or less, and trying to think things through in order to get things right! This is like the third thread I've begun about this one spot in the garden. lol But I do appreciate the comment, and hope to be a true gardener some day. After all the input, I'm thinking of digging up Jude, which is also a new own root and which I just put in the ground about two weeks ago, and planting Tradescant in his place and putting Jude in the back. Decisions, decisions! Thanks for your well wishes, and here's wishing you the same!...See Moremost purple, Tradescant or Prospero
Comments (16)Thank you, thank you all. Well Tradescant and Prospero are out, way out, Michael, rangy and not cane hardy clinched it. I knew if I shared my search with you all I'd get "THE" best possible choices. They are all beautiful. Powdery mildew was a nightmare last season so The Prince would not be happy here, thanks for the heads up Jerijen . The space could not take one that suckers so Indigo would not work. Reine des Violettes is not violet enough. Rhapsody in Blue is gorgeous, really purple, smallish and possible no spray. YEAH! I have been looking for so long. I found that Regan Nursery has it. Lucretial, is that where you got yours? I will have to baby her in my zone but I am more then glad to.Thanks again everyone. Elizabeth...See MoreAlec's Red, Crimson Glory, Tradescant, Deep... Comments (19)Thank you Nancy, The blooms get pretty big. The bushes don't look too good without the roses. In fact more than once I have thought about getting rid of them, but then it blooms and I .... Thank you Flora, My Crimson Glory is in a tub, hidden behind a lemon tree. The roses do hang their heads, I think it runs in the "family". Here is a shot of the bush, not very pretty, but fair enough The secret for getting the color right on photographs of red roses is to under expose. Comments (3)When you consider that some vegetable and herb seeds are downright teensy-tiny, one could conclude that size does not matter. However, each vegetable, and indeed, each tomato will tell you what the "average" size of its seeds should be. Some Cherry tomatoes have very small seeds "on average". Yes, they do have larger seeds and smaller seeds. But there is an "average" size for any particular variety. An example would be Subarctic Plenty, which produces a 3 to 4 foot plant with fruit about 2-4 ounces. The seeds are quite large for such a smallish plant and fruit. In contrast, is the Giant Tree (aka Italian Tree). Big potato-leaf plant that goes to 10 feet plus and has fruit that can reach 2 pounds. Its seeds are actually slightly smaller "on average" than the Subarctic Plenty. Seed size by itself is not important. Seeds that match or are larger than the "normal" for a variety IS important. Seeds too small for a variety will not have a success rate as high as those that are "normal" sized or larger. Ted...See Morepredfern
