When good coffee grounds go bad..,

A friend of mind owns a coffee shop that is actually located in the same building as my office. He often saves grounds for me. This morning he told me that he has three five gallon buckets that have been in the storage shed all summer long! I don't know just what kind of shape they're in. I mean they could be covered in mold for all I know. I'm inspecting them at lunch today.

Here's my question. Are they still good to use in the roses? If not on the roses, to amend veggie garden soil? Normally they only hang around maybe a day or three in his shed until I take them so this issue has never arisen before.

Thank you.

Kate
