What Can You Do w/ Meidiland landscape shrub?

I fell in love with the color and shape of the blossom on a *Pink Meidiland Landscape Shrub* and the description of the hips for fall, so I just bought it before I even asked anyone about options for use. I figured a "landscape shrub" just meant, it was good in a landscapes, but everything I can find, so far, about them on the Net says they are "ideal for hedges and barriers, planted in mass." Well, I don't want to use up all my garden space for one rose bush and I wondered if it can be trained to climb a fence or be pruned into a small tree or even how they do in containers. Has anyone used these beautiful roses for anything other than a barrier or hedge and by the way, what EXACTLY does that mean? Thanks!
