I have had Sunbonnet Sue for about a year now, and I am not too impressed. She has put out only a few blooms, and is tiny. I keep waiting for a growth spurt, but I am not seeing any. Blooms were okay, but nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe when I finally get some growth I can report something good.

It surprises me a little that Buck is introducing more roses. I did not know that they were continuing, and had thought that the ones I had been purchasing were all old.

I have decided that I want a large Buck collection, and then old roses, and some Romanticas, but not modern ones. Buck roses have done well for me even though I must spray them.

Sunbonnet Sue was introduced in 1984. I think that with the growing popularity of Bucks, varieties that were no longer available are re-emerging on the market.

I don't have it. It was previously listed by Donny in North Carolina as a Buck rose that does well without spraying in her area, but I don't see it on Pat Henry's list of Buck roses with the best disease resistance.

Thanks for the tidbits of info. Mgleason, your experience doesn't exactly make me want to rush out and get this one. But thanks for the caution, anyway. Better to be disappointed now when its hypothetical rather than after I've bought it, planted it, and cared for it for a season.

Re. Lisa and Countryside Roses, she actually invited me and family over on the 4th. We made a day of it and went to the beach that morning, then took a leisurely tour of Hwy 90 along the shore back to Louisiana. Lisa was very nice. She kept offering us more plants. Very generous person. I sent her a list of the roses I have and asked her to please let me know of any she's curious about. I love to root roses for co-workers, neighbors, and such, and since the big Hurricane, Her little business has been struggling. So many problems with insurance companies and trying to rebuild after the flood and wind damage.

As for the roses, she had Alec's Red and Prairie Sunrise for me. Both are babies but already have little flower buds on them.

Mike, I do the same thing with cuttings, and always take her down some. You are right about her! She tries to give me more roses than I brought down to her. Unfortunately, a lot of the roses that grow well for you all do not grow well up here at all.

Still looks real bad doesn't it? It is so depressing going thru that area, but hopefully the next few years will bring some much needed changes.

Help Me Find says that it repeats occasionally late in the season. The picture is pretty, but that is a very bad thing in my opinion.

I don't know how trustworthy Help me Find is.

I have it, its still in a pot but growing well. I love the color - I would think a photo might not be able to capture the color well. Mine is healthy, no blackspot. Cant say how it will do in the ground, but I love apricot roses, and this one, I really like. The peach/apricot color is very pretty.

I got mine in '02 from RU and it is one of my favorite Buck roses. It is a small plant - at least here in zone 4, anyway! Sue is only about 2.5x2.5 ft., but I find her to be a very good repeat bloomer. There is almost always some blooms or some new buds forming, plus the blooms hold a good long time. And, very importantly, I have not had a lick of disease problems with this one.
