Roses do best with at least 6 hours of sun daily so the southwest corner would be best. The northeast corner would be too shady although early morning sun may hit it.

I have no advice to give about sun locations but you are saying you are trying to grow a Mr. Lincoln and I take it that it's your first time growing this rose. I absolutely love this rose and it is my favorite rose because of the scent.It always makes me a bit sad to read about those who don't like him, because I think that maybe having the right fertilizer would make a tremendous difference. Mr. Lincoln can have the potential to be an incredible rose if you feed him frequently with organic fish emulsion/seaweed - once every 2-3 weeks and once a week in the very early Spring. He will keep blooming with several basal canes. And you have to protect him from rabbits (wire mesh around the base of the rose) Once a cane is eaten, it can permanently disfigure your rose because Mr. Lincoln hates severe "pruning" during its growing season and he shuts down if that rabbit gets to him. You can't feed Mr. Lincoln with the chemical fertilizers either because they won't do a thing for him- all you'll get is a one-cane wonder or, as others describe, spindly naked legs. He really flourishes with the fish emulsion and real organic nutrients that enrich the soil. I feed mine with Gardenville Sea Tea. Mine is still on its 4 month-long flush! It has never stopped blooming, and that's really rare for a hybrid tea to have this long of a flush. My Lincoln started its first flush in early April and it's now July with no break in between! with massive huge flowers so I think that the sea tea must really be working magic for him. Serena, Lincoln is a rose meant for warmer weather than we have here in the PNW. I can't stand red's that go blue when the blooms are getting ready to fall..YUK. My favorite red now is Ingrid Bergman. She is simply stunning and has huge blooms!

I have a new Mr. Lincoln in a large container & he's sitting on the Southwest side. It depends on the layout of your area, tall buildings, trees, etc. though.
Morning Magic is a light pink color. Correct?
I'm not one to give advice on color cordinations. lol
If it has a color, it goes with anything to me. lol
So, I'll let someone else handle that question.

It's a very, very popular rose in Central Illinois for its name alone. It's sold in every big box store & every nursery, and most public gardens have them. Agree totally with serenasyh--it's a rabbit's dream. I've yet to see any in bloom in two years here due to rabbit damage. They're all bare canes, everywhere I look.

Zyperiris, it gets super cold in Kansas, like reeeeal cold, way colder than PNW. But the terrific thing about Lincoln in our zone is that it is always the first rose to bloom and the last rose to bloom. It will still bloom in DECEMBER!!!! zone 5 Kansas. Again, organic sea tea is critical for producing tons of basal breaks and prolific blooms, but if the rabbits get to the rose as flaurabunda says, Lincoln is TOAST! and rabbits love Lincoln canes because they are so soft thick and juicy, like a boiled carrot. If you touch a new thick Lincoln cane, the thorns are so soft that you can actually pet the cane and bend the thorns, that is why Lincolns are so irresistable to a rabbit. In 2009, Lincoln was the one rose the rabbits ate out of the 5 in my back lot. In 2010, I had a baby rabbit climb up my 3' tall wire mesh perimeter (bulges in the mesh that gave it a foothold). It had access to 5 roses again and the one rose it kept zeroing in on was my Lincoln. That's why you always have to put wire mesh directly all around the base of Lincoln itself! and extra deterrents like garlic clips and Bobex! I now have to triple protect my roses. Wire mesh fences only goes so far when it comes to Lincoln.

Zyperiris, the petals may turn blue as they age, but in my garden most petals are still a brilliant red color when they fall, they rarely have the chance to turn blue, because what is so lovely about Lincoln is that unlike most roses, Lincoln blooms never rot and decay on the stem. They scatter brilliant red petals everywhere, which is sort of romantic to me, lol!

Ingrid Bergman may be stunning but it has terrible fragrance, and fragrance is an absolute requirement in my garden. Mr. Lincoln does turn a bright maraschino red if there is scorching Midwest sun, but in places like northern Illinois or Pennsylvania it will be that gorgeous deep red for summer with the more Northern sunlight. Because we are still getting non-stop rains in Kansas, I'm getting more deep reds than I would normally.
