We have had such lousy weather here, though I shouldn't complain, as so many aren't getting the rain. So after work, the Fed Ex lady showed up & I figured I'd better get as many in the ground as possible before it rains AGAIN on Saturday. I need to get mulch around them tomorrow.

I planted:

Hot Cocoa (had a potted one once, but it died its first winter) I loved it though, so thought I'd try it own-root.

I still have to figure out where I'm going to put Rouge Royale (have one & wanted another), and the climbers "Colette" and "Laguna."
I'm still so "cloudy" about what exactly to do with Colette and Laguna...what exactly to put them on. Our Teasing Georgia and Polka also need some kind of structure......TG gets so tall here.
We have Red Eden against a split rail fence, and Don Juan so far is in a raised bed that will eventually need some kind of support.
It has been rainy, cloudy, cool....mid July is usually mid-upper 80s & it is still 70F & 45-50 at night!

Happy and successful planting Phyl! you "just" have 3 more to go! hehe! I have to wait for mine to bloom before I decide where they'll go, since online photos keep fluctuating plus Kansas heat always changes the color of the blooms...

I am trying Nahema this year. It is my first venture into climbers. Madame Bovary, another Delbard rose, is hardy and vigorous; it survived the winter without protection. Madame Figaro did not. I am also trying France Info and Dames de Chenoceau. Please let us know how Henri Matisse works out.

Serenasyh-wow, bummer (having to wait to see the blooms!) What did you order? I ALMOST thought I'd be in your boat, as I for the life of me couldn't find any tag on the roses-the name tags were buried somewhat in the soil. I thought for a moment-wow-could they have messed up & sent me unlabeled roses?
Predfern-I have heard of those roses, but never looked at them! Let us know how your climbers work out for you too!

Hi, Phyl! I actually ordered America and Pennylane, both climbers, but poor roses, they're the ones who will be bummed because they will be experiments and may die as a result...I actually wanted Royal Sunset to arrive first instead of Pennylane because I know for sure that it'd be planted in the ground... and it would definitely! match colorwise; that way I could leave at least one in the ground (the ideal)... but RU was sold out of RS. America and Pennylane I really need to see the exact colors to coordinate properly... They are both supposed to be very fragrant climbers... I'm a bit shy about America, because one of our forumers gave really good advice about his own personal experience/problems with America but I went with the online overall research that America is indeed hardy to zone 4 and I'm in borderline zone 5/zone 6. Again I really appreciated his honest opinions and didn't want to give anyone the impression that I didn't give a hoot about their opinion... I just love the color of America and can live with it being a shrub if worst comes to worst...

America by the way looks fantastic! and very full big! Pennylane is huuuuge! but is too leggy and I've got itchy pruning fingers, LOL! I don't think I have the self-control to leave it alone... But all-in-all, I am kicking myself, Phyl... I really shouldn't have gotten my "baby climbers" because they ended up so big! (I love how healthy RU's roses are and I also love that they seem to be a no spray garden-type of nursery with lovely roses) I thought my babies would be only be 1'2! but they are actually ready to be planted straight! into the ground but MY SOIL AND GROUND PLOT ISN'T READY YET! SHAME ON ME!!! And to undertake any landscaping in the scorching heat of Kansas, uuuuugh! I'm not that dedicated! Right now my climbers are in very big pots...

Anyway, you've got a beautiful selection going! I too can't wait to hear how your roses are going... So all of yours came with blooms???? wowwwwww! which ones have really good fragrance? any favorites so far?

Awww, Serena, I hope you get some cooler temps so you can plant & not faint doing it! Today is probably only the 2nd day all summer we've run the a/c.
Your choices sound great! Thanks for your compliment on my selection....no,only one of them had a bloom...it was a weird bloom too, because I know what a normal Hot Cocoa bloom looks like, and this one was a single dark orangy bloom....but it must've been just a weird bloom.
One of the others had a bud on it. I have ordered from them in the past and had several full blooms when I opened the boxes! You're right, they are an awesome nursery!

Congrats. You will love Red Eden. I absolutely adore mine. Such a large cupped romantica and it even has a moderate old rose scent with some slight sweet tea undertones in it. The blooms last longer than any rose I have.

Do you know if you can call RU ahead of time to check their inventory currently? I might consider ordering if they have some of the roses I'm considering, however I havn't seen them show anything online and they prefer you list substitutions for your choices.

Jeffcat, you have to hurry, hurry with your orders! RU is very popular because they deliver fantastic roses... Customer service is also great! Once you become a regular customer, they actually take your order in good faith too! I sent them emails as to when I would be sending my check etc. and they sent me my roses even before snail-mail could possibly reach them...

Again, the only drawback is that they're too! popular! and roses are constantly sold out! LOL! but I bet it's the more rare specialized roses that I'm sure you'll have much! better luck with...

Phyl, Hot Cocoa has a marvelous range of shades... You will indeed get a russet orange/glow to your roses, but that will be sprinkled with anything from a hotter orange to cocoa subtleness... I noticed Hot Cocoa (but not own-root, of course) at my nursery...and you could see the variations in color, if I remember correctly...But again, lol! I'm referring to Kansas nurseries where heat can cause drastic changes... RU is in S. Carolina (heat) so I'm thinking this may have caused your bloom to be more orange, but then again, it's a very young rose and sometimes young roses will at first need color maturation... My bigger baby band, Special Occasion had 8 blooms on it but only! the last bloom showed the proper deep apricot/pink flushing-the rest was 85% cream with just a faint blush of apricot... Ironically the sick baby band that I nursed to health gave me the biggest most beautiful blooms (only 3 blooms total) but all! of them were the colors they were supposed to be...

Be sure to post piccies of your baby blooms! I love baby blooms, they look so "sweet and innocent" like mini-roses!
