I was never as excited about MP as many people are, but I have always loved the bush form of CB.

I planted a band of each this spring. Mp died. the bush form of cb is growing like a weed and currently blooming. I would say it is about 2 1/2 to 3 ft. tall already and not a speck of bs. I have never sprayed for anything, disease or bug.

For a location like that I'd select the bush form of Caldwell Pink. It's more disease resistant than Marie Pavie (and most other roses I could name) and more compact than Cecile Brunner.

I never thought that my Marie Pavie needed to be sprayed, but it is not a real success story now that I do not spray. I bought Cecile Brunner, but mine is called a sweetheart rose. The blooms are tiny, and I am not happy with it.

I have the spray version of CB and this my first year of not spraying fungicides, she is pretty sad looking with BS.

MP OTOH is much healthier and is only now starting to show a little BS among the bottom leaves. I would have to vote for MP.

If you want fragrance, MP is better in my garden. CB more vigorous.

MP in my area is in constant bloom. It is an extremely carefree plant. In fact, I just moved it. I have heavy clay soil here and when I picked up the root ball with the shovel and started to move it, much of the root ball broke off. I knew it would come back eventually, but I was completely unprepared for how quickly and how strong it came back. Upon replanting it had some major wilting of the cane tips, which I cut off. Then it completely defoliated. I figured it would be into fall before I saw any new growth. Within two or three weeks of complete defoliation, it started to show new growth. From the time new growth started to having lots of leaves and blooms was two weeks. I am now enjoying the blooms. Needless to say I am very impressed with this rose. I also really like the growth habit--it is a nicely rounded bush.

It's going about 50/50 for MP vs CB, so I'll have to think about this further.

Caldwell Pink - for its blooms & health. My experience with it is the same as mentioned above by rosyone.
