I have a chance to grow them side-by-side for 3 or 4 years already and only difference able to notice is that JB wakes up in spring about 10-14 days earlier than Rozanne, though they start blooming at about the same time. Otherwise they are absolutely identical to my eyes.

I had 4 Jolly Bee and the voles ate 2 of them, so when I tried to replace them, I could only find Rozanne. So I planted them and I can tell NO difference at all between the two.

For me, Jolly Bee must be somewhat less hardy. Either that, or it doesn't have nearly the rambling habit of Rozanne.

Rozanne sprawls up and over everything in about a 5' perimeter of where she's planted in my garden, while Jolly Bee could be described as more of a clump of groundcover.

Jolly Bee's blooms look identical to Rozanne, and they bloom at the same time, but they definitely don't behave the same way.

I only have Rozanne, but it seems to sprawl a lot. Not a nice clump at all.

Thank you all so very much. When I saw the first bloom on Rozanne this fall, I suspected that the plants were almost identical twins. As I said before, I've had Jolly Bee for two years, and as of now, it has not gone very far. It is a circular plant that is "sprawly in a circle," if that makes sense. I did put Rozanne somewhere where it can fill in with it being a problem, so I'm glad that I planted it where I did!

Right after I bought Jolly Bee, I looked it up on the internet and saw that whomever held the patent for Rozanne was suing the distributors of Jolly Bee because they said it was the same cultivar being illegally sold under that name. I never heard how the case was resolved.

Since then I've bought Rozanne and I can tell no difference from JB. Same color of flower, continual bloom habit, same sprawling form.

I've only got Jolly Bee. When I was looking into getting Jolly Bee or Rozanne, I was reading posts here on how well they both did. I did read more posts saying that Rozanne didn't seem as hardy as Jolly Bee, so that's the reason I bought Jolly Bee. I just love the sprawling habit of it. It's still flowering, though not near as much. It really has filled in a large empty spot and that's what I wanted.

Since 'Jolly Bee' received its patent before 'Rozanne' and it has slightly different documented parentage, it would be hard to support any claim of patent infringement :-) I grow both myself and while they share a close similarity in flower color and length of bloom time, I do notice a difference between the two plants. JB is much more upright and a bit of a clumper, staying within about a 24" diameter. Rozanne is a sprawler, with stems that have extended 3-4 feet, sometimes more, and it is a low grower that clambers up and through neigboring plants. Rozanne also sports distinct chartreuse or grass green marbling to the new foliage, which JB lacks.

But the distinctions are subtle and something that someone other than a plant geek might easily overlook.

I agree that Jolly Bee forms more of a "clump" than Roseanne. Roseanne is a low, long rambler for me, Jolly Bee forms a more dense mound - it still sprawls but with shorter stems and more contained, and with a denser form and therefore seems to have more color impact. I prefer Jolly Bee.
