Comments (3)Weed seeds usually come from the top, not underneath. Unless you have a area that is weedy or grassy already and you are not going to clear it off, I would suggest that you use newspaper or cardboard as they will smother out the weeds and grasses that might come up from under the pavers. Carpeting or carpet padding would probably work. Black plastic won't let the weeds come up but it will not drain and you might get standing water. Weed seeds are going to land in the cracks and come up, whatever you use. Can't really prevent that. Sandy...See MoreTrees, shrubs, perennials, landscape rock&weed barrier. How to feed?
Comments (8)treebarb, I've been in love with Abies concolor for decades; have never owned one. I'll go peek at Lowe's. We haven't made a decision yet, family stuff in Florida happened and we just returned home. Do you think the shallow roots would be a problem? We don't want it falling over in the wind and hitting the house (but of course on a 3-foot Lowe's tree we'd not have to worry about that for a while)! The neighbor's trees are not any wind protection. One is at the very front of her house and the other smaller juniper is between our houses. The prevailing winds are straight up the slope much of the time, so whoever's out back is going to have to withstand 50+ up to highest measured at 76 mph. Doesn't happen all the time, of course, but I'd say 20% of the year at least. I just looked up Bosnian pine: "tolerant of severe wind exposure". I like its looks online, and it sounds like the ticket to me. Thanks for your helpfulness. I very much appreciate it....See MoreAdd exposed landscaping fabric under existing deck?
Comments (1)If debris from the hedge - or any other plantings - is blowing under there it will pile up on top of the fabric and defeat it. Maybe you need to install an access to that area, so you can get in there and do maintenance....See MoreTall perennials under a Japanese maple
Comments (9)Ok I just moved the 3 into that spot. Forgot there was also a white pine in that vicinity too. Interestingly enough, I encountered no roots at all when digging and soil was still moist. Btw…. I read some horror stories in rouge21s thread https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5433354/thalictrum-splendide-in-its-new-location Many people saying rochebrunianum dying on them or not coming back up in spring especially seed grown ones. Are these plants actually that hard to grow? I’ve planted a nursery purchased one in 2019 and that one is still nice and alive so must be seed grown ones that are more challenging?...See Moregardenweed_z6a
