I wouldn't cut down either of those. Shasta daisies often keep evergreen basal rosettes which should never be cut down for winter. Blooming stalks can be cut down any time, and removing those are usually enough to tidy things for winter.

Geum has been marginally hardy here, and those plants tend to do better if left untouched until spring.

Nope- no need to cut them down. Like the above poster said, the basal foliage will be evergreen. I have grown about a dozen Geum over the years (lol, 2006 was 'Year of the Geum' in my garden, I went crazy over them that year!).

I find that Geum coccineum is quite easy to grow in comparison to G. chiloense (such as 'Mrs. Bradshaw' and 'Lady Strathden'). If you plant is still blooming then you have a happy Geum on your hands. ;-) I doubt you will have any troubles with it unless it is a very wet winter and the place you have it in has poor drainage. But, I find the chiloense are bothered by winter wet more than any of the other species/cultivars I have grown.

I agree with not cutting them back. I have a number of both plants in my garden and they look really lovely in the winter dappled with snow. It reminds me that no matter how cold it is outside....summer will return!
Does anyone have thoughts on when/ how/ or if to divide Geum?

Geum can definitely be divided in spring, just as the new growth emerges -- just dig up clump and divide into two or more pieces, depending on size/age of original plant.

I'd bet it could also be done in the fall.
