ISO edging plants that can be run over.

I have a sunny driveway bed. Since the driveway curves a little, cars often go over the edge a bit. So I have set back all the major plants--phlox, peonies, daylilies, iris, amsonia--a foot or more back. However that has created an ideal long strip for weeds. I have tried to fill with nepeta---really don't like---and dianthus---overrun by weeds. Any thoughts for an edging plant that can take being run over occasionally, but is strong enough to stand up to weeds. Doesn't have to be evergreen: the weeds aren't. (Somehow the weeds don't seem to mind being run over.) Is perennial geranium dense enough to block weeds? Would its foliage bounce back after being run over from time to time? Is there a thyme or other herb that can shade out weeds? Thoughts?
