Erin..if it was my citrus, I'd discard the compost, then hose roots/stems/trunk until all signs of Roly-Poly's and compost are gone. Hose the container if you're planning on reusing. Add a couple drops of dish soap, then rinse. Repot in fresh, well-draining soil or gritty mix, some people are using. As long as the mix is fertile but well-draining, it doesn't matter which medium you choose.. You want to rid Roly-Poly's. Are they in your home? I don't know if they eat roots/bark, but even if they don't, I doubt you want them in your plant or home. I've never heard these crusted/shelled?-creatures eat bananas, but they like beer..lol..You can pour a litte beer or squashed banana inside an upsidedown container cap. The food/liquid will attract them, goodbye Roly Poly. lol. I'm assuming your citrus is indoors this time of year, right? since you're in z6B. Wish I had an answer what can be done regarding the bark. I am heartened to hear of others who see ants actually eating tomatoes. I'm tired of all of the "advice" that assures me that ants don't actually eat plants and fruits. Maybe not where they live.... I live in Phoenix. Here, ants will go after all sorts of fruit and plants for the water. Right now, I'm battling ants actually burrowing into and eating the sap from my eggplants (from the plants, not just the fruit.) First I tried spraying water -- they were back the next day. Then I tried diatomaceous earth. It was only a temporary deterrant, killing some ants. Then I set out a small dish of sugar and borax in water. That killed many ants, but not enough, so I've set out a new dish three days in a row. Next, I tried pouring vinegar onto the "ant hill" (no hill, but it is where they are living in the dirt.) That angered the ants, but the next day despite the vinegar, diatomacous earth, and sugar/borax bait, the ents were back to boring into the eggplant stems and joints. So today I mixed up pyrethrin with water for the right concentration and simply sprayed the plant, especially wherever it was being attacked by ants. I don't like using poisons in my garden...but I'm not sacrificing a productive eggplant plant at the end of May.

Thank you for the responses. First we are in our own back yard when this happens. I do walk her around 2 blocks(.8miles) in the morning and afternoon(before the kids come home from school) unless it is raining. I am not physically capable of walking her more than that. Then I throw a tennis ball for her, for about 15-20 min. then she looses interest. I make her bring it back by calling her when I see she does not want to play any more, so we have ended with success, just as I end her other training with something she knows. Her eating bark usually happens when I am working in the garden or picking up the yard, or even when we are just sitting around. I then will replace it with one of her outside toys she has lots of ropes. She will give it a couple of chews then will quit(I praise her when she does chew it). I have a large Kong for her but no matter what I put in it she seems to not have any interest in it. I will look for the nylabones, and try them. She never has seemed like a big chewer, she has many ropes and a hard rubber dog tire, but has not chewed on any thing else that she should not like furniture, shoes, or the kids toys. It seems like if she cannot eat it she don't want it. Could her food be missing something she needs and she is eating roots and bark to make up for it. Are dogs that smart? Maybe I should try her on another food?
