Should I lop off half this maple? (photo)

I'm asking about the small, Y-shaped red maple (Acer rubra), but you can offer suggestions about whatever else you see.

I know that narrow crotch angles are weaker, so I want to address a potential future problem now. Is it narrow enough to mean trouble later? I was thinking of cutting off the half that's growing toward the house, but then the tree would be lop-sided. Would it self-correct over the years?

It's hard to judge scale from the photo, so here's an explanation:

The large tree (Tulip poplar, Liriodendron tulipifera) is about 30" diameter and about 18 feet from the back porch. It seems very healthy and we've limbed it up for clearance over the roof, even though it doesn't hang over it yet. The little red maple is about 4 feet below the tulip poplar and about 3" diameter. There's a creek below both trees so they get plenty of water. The small tree near the bird feeder is a dogwood (Cornus florida).

I hope folks don't tell me to cut them down, but I'm still learning. ;-)
