Oh happy day!!! Cimicifuga seedlings!!!

Well, it is official....don't throw out your unsprouted pots of Cimicifuga. These were the hairy seeds, not the smooth seeds...commonly traded as cohosh. Not sure what determines the differences, but the seeds are quite dissimilar. Should check into why the seeds of C. racemosa are different from the atropurpurea group someday.

I winter sowed a small bin of them last year and after they didn't sprout, I set the bin on the north side of the house (uncovered) where it sat through the summer and another complete winter...then just looked this morning and low and behold, 3 very healthy looking youngin's....a couple with true leaves!

Hoping there will be more to sprout (had quite a few seeds in there), and am sure they got mixed up.

They could be any of the following:

ÂHillside Black Beauty or

C. racemosa atropurpurea
