FANTASTIC! I wsowed some this year - Cimicifuga Brunette - but did so a bit late for the seeds to get the whole winter. Thanks for the heads-up on not dumping this one if they don't germinate this year.

Now I know Ma Nature sowed some in my gardens in the fall, so I'm wondering if her's will come up. It will be interesting to find out.

Tiffy, were your seeds the "hairy" type (they had a bit of a coppery sheen to them, too)??

You know, this was the only pot/bin that I hung onto...partially because the trading of these seeds has slowed way down (probably out of frustration). I just couldn't toss them out...think I read somewhere that they may require two complete cycles...

There are quite a few bugs that got trapped in there, too...guess I am going to have to pick their little dead bodies out of there now... :o)

How cool. I'm still holding out hope for my pot from last year. No sprouts there yet but I was really excited to find some tree peonys left from last year that sprouted.

I picked mine from my Brunette and they looked like little bugs. Cute seeds - I remember showing them to DH who is not the least bit interested in seeds, but bravely looked at them and said 'uh-huh'. :) I think they had hairs on them.

Forget about the dead bugs. They'll compost eventually if they haven't already! LOL!

Good for you! Haven't had much luck with cimicifuga so far, but I have a couple of leftover containers from last year - I'll watch them.

Congratulations! This is one of the seeds that I want to try - maybe this fall I'll get around to it. I heard that it's one of the more slow ones to germinate.

I believe they have been switched to the Actaea genus, but I like the name Cimicifuga better....

Generally, they are one of the more expensive perennials in the nurseries....mine sells them from between 8-16 dollars for the 4 inch pots...

They are beautiful AND they repel insects (bugbane)...bonus! :o)

I just realized I recieved some C. in trade, and was sad that it was probably too late to get it out. With your info, I guess I'll just go ahead and sow them and let them sit through the summer and next year. We may still have enough cold here to give them what they need.

Congratulations! I'd never have the patience to do something like that on purpose. But I guess I'll postpone dumping the containers that appear to have nothing going on.

Linda (lblack61), you might be able to set them in the fridge for awhile, then sit them out this summer and hopefully next spring they should sprout.

I have tried some of my seeds and had no results, it appear they do not reseed for me either. Genus actaea seems to have some short viability seeds and needs to be moist packed to preserve viability. I just found some very unusual variety of
cims on JL Hudson website- Pritchard's Giant variety.
Hopefully I could get results from that, will be prepared to wait.

I meant to start mine outdoors in late summer but forgot, so I am cheating. Three months in a heated propagator, a further three in the fridge, then outside to get on with it. If that doesn't work, hopefully they'll have sprouted by next spring. (Instant gratification is not always best!)

Well...they are toast...I have been entirely too busy and completely forgot they were out there when the "big freeze" came through...they are gone...none, nada, zilch...

If I had remembered them, their little butts would have been indoors...........

I hope that some of the other seeds have not surfaced yet...maybe those were early, but I am doubtful at this point.
