There's a little winter burn but new growth all over. Do you have any closeups of the buds (or bud remains)?

It's a bit hard to tell but it looks like there were alot of brand new tender shoots and leaves that had sprouted that got some major frost/freeze damage. Seems like those may have come from a greenhouse or warmer spot and then were sitting out somewhere exposed whenever you had your last frost/freeze. Did you have a frost/freeze after they were planted? I'm sortof a weather nut and I know there were some frosts over here in outlying areas - but that was at the beginning of the month and we're usually a couple days later with respect to the weather where you are.

You can snip off all the completely brown leaves and let them settle in and see how they recover.

If your landscaper planted those recently, I'd call him to come back. A reputable landscaper should guarantee the health of plants for longer than two weeks. The new growth on those shrubs has died, either from a cold snap, becoming too dry, or even wind burn ('highway disease') from moving them from one location to site in an open truck.

It's hard to tell, but that almost looks like a broken branch near the base of the plant to the outside of your first photo near the curve of lawn. Not a complete disaster, but not especially professional either.

He planted these 3 weeks ago, and he does have a 1 year warranty. I figured I'd wait to see if they make it before I ask to have them replaced?

Domino, these are evergreen shrubs that only produce new growth once a year in Spring.

I believe I'm seeing brown new small leaves, that may have wilted and tipped over before drying up. At least that is what appears to me on my monitor.

These will not recover (the new growth, not the plants themselves). So while your rhododendrons may not be in danger of dying, they did not make the transition into your garden well, and something has damaged this years growth (i.e. setting them back by a year). That is not a professional planting job and should not have happened unless you had a really freak cold snap that was beyond what your area could have expected.

Interesting. These plants arrived on site looking like this. I suppose it could have been the weather. We absolutely did have a "freak cold snap" here where we had a blizzard in the middle of spring. Possibly that could have caused it.

Still, if they were injured before placement in your garden, I wonder if you shouldn't object to paying full price...or paying for them at all but rather asking for replacements.

And, your landscaper should know that anything damaged, if broken or weather related/whatever, needs to be removed using clean sharp pruning cuts so as not to offer a foothold for secondary disease or insect problems. Do call him...
