I have St. Ptrick on order grafted from S&W Greenhouse for Spring, but Palatine Roses also carries it (both excellent sellers & appear to still have it in stock). Roses Unlimited & Burlington carry it own root, but I've always been told a rule of thumb is to buy HT's grafted...some of the other posters may be able to shed some light on how St. Patrick grows ownroot though. My Pope John Paul came from J&P. I bought mine grafted, but it looks like this year they're only selling it ownroot. ~Tammy

I am glad to report that I love this white rose and think it is probably the best white HT available on the market today for the average gardner and rosarian. My two PJPII bushes grew very vigorously and bloomed heavily all year long last year and I have no disease or insect problem at all, including the nasty little thrips. Also, it's blooms are deliciously citrussy scented and last a long time when cut for a vase in the house. I am also glad to report that my two bushes really performed well over the winter and had very little cane die back at all. I didn't winter protect them at all, so that says alot for it's innate winter hardiness. I am expecting great things from these bushes this second year in my garden now they are somewhat established. Remember the old adage when it comes to growing roses... First year they sleep Second year they creep Third year they leap!! I think that is a very true statement and especially true for this rose. Try it, you will definitely like it in your garden. John

I tried PJPII own root many years ago. It didn't die, but just never grew. It was 2 ft X 2 ft at best and only gave me an occasional bloom when I finally got rid of it. I have it on Dr Huey now, and it's doing great for me. Rain, humidity nor heat seem to bother its blooms. I've had Sugar Moon for two years now, and Kathy is right, itâÂÂs already at least 8 ft tall. For the most part, only blooms on top of those tall canes; whereas, PJPII blooms all over for me. It's not as tolerant of rain, either. We had massive rain this spring, and most of SMâÂÂs blooms either balled or rotted without opening. The few that did open were ruined by the rain. It greatly improved once the rain slowed down and seemed to open okay in our high humidity. PJPII didnâÂÂt miss a beat pumping out big, beautiful blooms in all the rain. Both are stunning and very fragrant, but have different bloom forms. Sugar Moon's blooms are like huge camellia flowers. I donâÂÂt have any good individual bloom shots of SM (since IâÂÂm not 8 ft tallâ¦lol), but hereâÂÂs the best I haveâ¦itâÂÂs really much prettier in person: And here's PJPII being very rain tolerant:

HI Stormy, I have a JP which is 2 years old now. I have it blended with my Nelly Moser. It loves to creep; gave me one bloom last year. I raised it from a bare root along with my NM. They both get the first morning sun, then shade during the hottest part of the day. I think all Clemmies do better in the shade esp.since JP does have a tendency to fade. Enjoy your clemmie. TwelthS.
