about turning your pile

since it's getting cold and i wanna keep my compost pile productive, i've decided to surround it with straw to keep it warm, the only problem with that is that i'm not much of a 'bin' person cuz to me its easier to have a free standing pile, i can get all the way around it and to the bottom of it better. i don't think i wanna fool w/ the trouble of tearing the pile down and rebuilding it just to get a good turning. so i've been looking at the tools to do the job.

What do you recommend? long shank bulb auger? or one of those compost spear thingies? other?
