LF David Austin rose cuttings in spring
Comments (2)but a lot of 'em are out of patent! perennialfan, check/post on the Exchange page on the Rose forum, & you might also browse on these gardenweb forums: Perennials Exchanges Plant Exchange & your regional forum(s) will have an exchange page- for instance, I'd check the Texas forum & Southern Gardening, but if I were in Canada, I'd check Canada & Far North. Best luck, & enjoy your gardens & roses!...See MoreHAVE: Have David Austin rose cuttings
Comments (0)Hi, I have cuttings of LD Brathwaite & one which could be either Evelyn or Abraham Darby. Would like to exchange for cuttings or divisions of anything on my wish list. Trade would have to be agreed on before next Tuesday, to give me time to get the cuttings mailed before I leave for a 3-weeks vacation. Anemone...See MoreDavid Austen roses in the Bay Area?
Comments (3)I live further down the Peninsula than you do, closer to San Jose, and I grow several Austin roses. I have not tried the two you are considering. However, I have had very good luck with several others. Leander is probably my favorite, a big climber here, but it does get some powdery mildew. Gertrude Jekyll is wonderfully fragrant but is only a modest repeater. Constance Spry is gorgeous but does not repeat at all, and suckers if on it own roots as mine is. The Generous Gardener is also a climber and repeats quite well. I also grow Jude the Obscure, Golden Celebration, and Molineux, but they are in the back garden past the olive tree and frankly I don't pay much attention to them. They seem to be doing well. I'm starting to think that my back garden is kind of wasted on me, a somewhat encouraging thought should I ever relocate to a smaller piece of land. I've had other Austins in the past. Some I liked, some disappointed me. There are other South Bay and Peninsula rose growers on this forum. I expect that some of them will speak up soon. Comments (32)Rebecca- your roses are gorgeous but so much work. I live in Massachusetts. It is so difficult to even dig a hole 10 inches deep with all the rock, boulders and ledge so I try to buy only own root roses. I have gotten some wonderful own root roses from DA and have some more scheduled for delivery next week. I hope they add more own root to their collections. I recently ordered 'Queen of Sweden' and 'Windermere' which is by far my healthiest DA rose and covers herself with delicate soft blush pink blooms from early summer till fall. She is cane hardy in my Z5b-6a garden. The only negative is lack of the "to die for" strong perfume scent that Austins are so known for. sharon...See Morerosybunny
