New Posting Editing Feature

Hi everyone,
We've been working on adding an 'edit post' feature and hope to have it fully functional this week. We are rolling it out to a select few forums (including this one) for testing and would appreciate your feedback.

To edit, once you have loaded the page where your post is located, look to the right and you'll see an edit link just under the Clippings area. This will open up the post and you'll be able to make your changes. It will be very similar to making changes in the Preview window when you make an original post.

You will not be able to edit your Subject line.

You will only be able to edit messages that you've posted today and beyond. Messages that you've posted before last Friday will not be accessible with the edit post feature. Also, once you have posted a new message, there is no time limit to make your edits.

Once you've changed your post, a notation is added to the bottom of the post, showing that it's edited. There is always a log kept of the original post.

If you experience any problems, please be specific as to what you are seeing and - very importantly - what type of computerand browser (and version) you are using. Please post issues/feedback to this thread.

clyde is fraying bonnies fins, pay close attention to her fins as the fraying may become fugused. clyde is sucking up the food also, clyde is the dominent resident bully, can you seperate them? you may need to to stave off her destruction or feed each one in a different portion of the tank, also provide lots of live plants to provide obsticals to chasing.feed some frozen food also + veggie diet, keep protein food under 40%

Oh I like that. Too many times I'm interrupted when composing a post, I might start it but not actually post it until hours later. I'll cut and paste to reorder my thoughts and if I'm in a rush I'll post. Then read it later and roll my eyes when I see a paragraph repeated or a silly spelling error. I just had one on thermostatic versus pressure-balanced valves. It took 5 minutes to type, but those 5 minutes were spread over 90 minutes. When I proof-read? Oh the horror! Thanks for the editing upgrade.

There appears to be a defect... We cannot edit posts on the thread linked below.The Subject is truncated and the message is rejected.Only the Preview button appears. I think it's the quotes in the subject - the subject is truncated after the "7". I was able to successfully edit on a different thread just now. Browser:Firefox 17.0 Windows PC (Dell) OS:Windows 7 Home Premium (v6.1, Build 7601, Service Pack 1) Editing Post: Two defects!Note that the thread's subject was also cut off in the link. Three defects...I cannot edit a post too soon after I edited it a previous time. The message is rejected and since I cannot change the subject when editing a post, I cannot use the workaround of changing the subject. This came up on another forum last week. It seems - "There is a 1 Hour limit on editing original discussions. There is a 1 week limit on editing comments you've added to someone else's thread." If you started a new thread you have an hour to make any changes. If you've added a comment to someone's new thread you have a week to make changes. If for some reason you really need to have a new thread you started removed or a part of it removed, i.e. there is personal or geographic information in it about which you've had second thoughts, you can contact....Houzz, Company, Contact Us (bottom of page)

Just to clarify, was unable to edit using Ubuntu 12.04 Opera 12.11

But then again, probably won't encounter many folks on GardenWeb using Linux and Opera.

Hi Albert,

I could make it a sticky, but then it wouldn't allow others to respond to it. Is there a particular reason you want it stuck to the top? The testing part of this is only going to be a couple of days and then it will be a permanent feature for all posts.
