Re: Need pruning azalea advice

I just bought my first azalea starter plant last night. I believe the name of the plant is Herbert. Since the plant only has at the most 5 branches on it with sparse leaves all over and spent blooms that I meticulously plucked off the plant before planting it in the ground yesterday, do I need to start pruning the plant right away? It's not a mature plant with lots of branches and I'm not sure when will be the right year to start prunning. Should I wait another year for it to mature first? Please advise.
