I have mine in a shady site under a pine tree. They do well there, and they do like it on the moist side.

I've had 3 of them for several years now. Mine get only a few hours of early morning sun. They're planted under our Linden tree and are by my hostas. They have been doing great. When I first got them, I had put them on my deck until I could get them planted in the ground. They didn't like all the sun they got there. The leaves started to burn. Once I got them in a shady area, they did fine. Like Anitamo mentioned, they like it on the moist side. They don't like to dry out. They'll let you know by wilting. But I do my best not to let that happen, though it has. When that happens I give them a good deep watering and in less than an hour, they'll perk up again. I mulch them and water them deeply, usually once a week. If you get a lot of mid to upper 80s or higher, I'd water them more often. I love these plants even without the flowers. They really brighten up a shady area.

Brunnera does not do well in dry soil - period. First they will wilt, then they will crisp, finally they will wilt and crisp. Also, leaves will be smaller (they won't get big and lush after flowering). The white-edged varieties are particularly prone to crisping - even if there is enough moisture, too much sun can toast the edges.

I have mine in morning sun and shade the rest of the day. I noticed that they do need extra water or they start to crisp on the edges. I have been watering them more over the last month and they are doing much better now. I don't know why, but they are very expensive around here (Rochester, NY area) - so I don't want to lose them.
