Photographers in the garden

This morning two photographers from Finland visited my garden to take pictures for a book on hardy roses for the north one of them is writing, a nurseryman. They have spent a few days in Sweden visiting many gardens, private and public, and came to my garden for pictures of garden settings. I hope they had enough photos of roses from those other places because my roses are very late. It was interesting to me to see what they thought worth photographing and made me see my garden with fresh eyes. The helenae hybrid Lykkefund climbs a wooden ladder and they took pictures of that, my shabby white wooden chairs, a bench under Chloris, even shabbier wooden chairs in the kitchen garden in front of Leda and Duchesse de Montebello, Betty Bland in my wood. I should really like to have some of the pictures even if they are not included in the book.

Marianne, how very flattering! If you are able to obtain pictures it would be wonderful if you could post them here, assuming that's allowed. I suppose they'll have many pictures that won't be in the book since they've probably taken hundreds, and those might not be copyrighted. At any rate you should be very proud that your garden was chosen.

This is really interesting. I have been trying it in one little "garden room". So far its not as clean as Id like it either. The other day I wondered if every time I was raking it, I wasnt keeping it friable. It was clean of leaves, but little bits of gravle loosend up and rolled out. I was also thinking of the southern swept earth tradidtion. So I switched to a soft kitchen broom, a cheepie from the dime store, with synthetic bristles. There was an imediate improvement. Not very zen, but no one has to see it. As for the clay soil, I dont have it, I have river loam that the privious owners incorporated gravel to in thier quest for the ultimate huge cheep drive way. At my moms there is lots of clay in the soil. Her packed, old established paths never grow weeds, and short of going out and trying to use it as a slip'n slide, or tromping over and over to provoke a mucky mess, its not bad. She runs the wheel barrow and mower through there every time she uses them, and its held so far. That garden has been in pretty much the same path configuration since the orrigional owner layed it the "bones" of the garden in the early '30s so I guess it could take a while. :)

The guy next door has hundreds of nesting holes for them so I get inundated with them for a few weeks. Quite harmless though. I've added a few birds today with a lot more to put in. Also a few spiders.

As a photographer, you might ask them for a link to the photos on their own websites. So you can share their work and that might sell a few books!
