Need advice on hurricaned Buddleia!

OK, I dealt with all the Dahlias which were hurled around and whipped by Hurricane Earl who decided to make landfall here last Saturday. Now I'm looking at the Buddleias. Some are fine, two were nearly rooted out of the ground, and then there are mature ones where the branches have bowed to the ground... They are not broken at the base but I fear that should I leave them this way, when the snow comes, it will break them. Is tying them up my only solution? Definitely not an easy task! Can I cut back to four or five feet? My experience is that cutting back to one foot in the fall means certain death, but what about cutting back by 1/2?
