I wear generic crocs year round here except when there is snow on, and then resort to boots or shoes of another sort.
I wear socks with them year round with them.

You should be able to find them anytime now at CVS or WM for about $5 or so. Mine are big and loose, but they are comfortable and easy to walk in and to kick off either outside on the rug or inside at the back door. In the event my socks have maybe gotten dirty or wet too, I keep an 'inside' pair of them inside the back door. I got lucky and found some nice tan colored ones.

I second the knock-off crocs. The ones with holes in them aren't so great for gardening (dirt gets in them). But, the slip-on type work great. I throw them in the washer with an old towel if they get really grubby.

I have some garden clogs that are easy to slip off at the door. They do not keep my heels from getting wet as don't have a back so last week I bought a pair of rubber boots from Target to slip on this spring. I also saw boots at a farm store in our area but they had patterns of stripes and polka dots that were either ugly to me or made me dizzy. The ones I got at Target are a soft blue.

My dollar store (Dollar Tree / Deals) sells the knock-off crocs without holes and the "winter crocs" with the sherpa fleece style lining for $3 - $5 periodically throughout the year.

For real gardening and yard work I don't like the slip ons because they slip off. I have a pair of Bogs that are amazing. I have literally drop a running hose on my foot or sloshed through standing water and my socks remain dry. My pant leg can be soaked, and my feet will be dry. They are lace-up, low-top sneaker-like trail shoes and I absolutely love them. I do have to take them off when I come inside or they will track mud.

I don't worry about special shoes right now, wear my moccasins every day; if it's wet wear my rubber slip on boots (can't remember the name for them), if it's really slippery and cold, put on my camping boots. Later, I'll dig out my shot moccasins with the hole in the toe. Those are my everyday, normal gardening shoes in nice weather. This winter I have been constantly changing, won't have to so much in the nicer weather.

I bought several nice throw rugs for high traffic areas, a lot of good that has done - not, but they get crooked after walking on them a few times, washable which I like. The most critical area, I have 3, and the cat just loves to mess them up; try to straighten them every day. My carpeting is shot and dirty anyway, so I don't worry about it right now.

Coming in from the back, there's vinyl flooring, then two steps, then more vinyl flooring in back hall and on into the kitchen, so that's easy to sweep and mop. Coming in from the front, by the time I get up 5 steps, the cement slab porch, wipe my feet on the thick jute mat, and enter the vinyl tiled foyer, then large, heavy cotton throw rug on the carpet by there, most of the dirt is gone. Sometimes I do have to take a paring knife and scrape the bottoms and sides of my shoes into the kitchen wastebasket.

What I want most are some comfortable golf shoes. Those would help some aerating the lawn, and especially useful on my terraces which I now have to crawl up on my hands and knees to plant and weed one side so not much weeding gets done there. If I had golf shoes, I think I could walk up my terraces again without worrying about slipping and falling.

I wear cheap Walmart aquasocks and keep one pair outside on the porch and another inside the door.

My feet do get muddy through them while watering, but in the height of watering season I just keep a bucket of water on the porch and wipe off my bare feet before going inside. If the aquasocks are really muddy I'll give them a quick rinse in the bucket too. They dry fast, but are also perfectly comfortable when wet.

Walmart didn't have anything but rubber boots and nothing in my size but the saleslady said to come back next week, the crogs would be in. Don't know if she understood what I was talking about or not. Target also had some pretty rubber boots. I will keep looking and will look at other places. I thought about Payless shoes..I think probably Plow and Hearth also sells them. think I saw some in Miles Kimball or Walter Drake catalog for under $15..Kmart didn't have any when we were there 2 days ago. I'll find them probably where I least expect!

and the aqua shoes from Wally World are my favs..yep...they get your feet wet when watering...but they give traction..and they rinse right out...and its kinda a feeling they give..letting the water run right thru...I feel like I am GARDENING : Tho I will admit, not always so good when your trying to stay clean and dry :)

I have an inexpensive pair of blue garden clogs. They don't protect your feet/sox in wet or muddy conditions and even my jeans can drag in the dirt. But I do use them alot in decent conditions and take them off right at the back door. I keep a shoe scraper by the back door too and couple rugs that I walk over in stages, if the first rug doesn't get the dirt, the second one will as it's more scratchy. I also have a pair of like rain boots, yellow with flowers on them. They go on easily and I can tuck my jeans in them, but I hate pulling them off esp. if full of mud. I wish I would have found some of these boots but with a velcro or snap flap that opens them out and gets you out of them easier. All this sits by the back door at all times, unless I am having company or something then I spruce up the back porch.

I've found crocs at my are rural king and one of the hobby stores cannot remember if it was hobby lobby or micheal's, I guess some people like to jazz these thing up (who can blame them, they are ugly). In the summer I just wear flip-flops hose the mud off them and my feet at the same time. For me it definitely has to quick to come off. I like to run in and out of the house all day.

I really do need to get mud boots for winter, right now I just use an old pair of canvas tennies I leave the shoes strings rather loose so I can slip them off by my back door. I do occasionally hose them off and throw them in the wash.

shinyalloy..you just gave me a good idea..Thanks! Go buy a pr. of slip on canvas shoes that can be left by the door when i come inside and throw in washer when they need washer, with the towels.

Just got an email from Burpee..they have some clogs for $7.45 or something like that, normally $14 plus it stated. I think I can afford that, so I'm ordering HOT PINK and maybe I'll order 2 pr. One for the front door and one for the back door/yard! LOL!

I saw tonight that CVS drugstore has sluggers for around 10 bucks I think
