Comments (2)Thank you for posting. This gentleman has done incredible amounts of research and I love to learn the history of the roses. The article on bourbons was also fascinating as I've had some success with these. Thank you again. Jeannie...See Morehybrid bourbons...hybrid chinas
Comments (7)Maureen, My interest in Hybrid Chinas comes especially from a rose that I have in my garden that is classified as a Hybrid China: The Bishop. This rose seems more like a gallica than anything else...except that it is much more lanky and can be trained to climb over an arch. It blooms profusely, smells wonderfully, and is disease resistant. Another rose that is similar to The Bishop in growth is Hippolyte...but, it's classified as a gallica, I believe. I've also got Alice Vena (which is wonderful), Alexandre Laquement (still young), Malton (still young), Velours Episcopal (still young). Lori, thanks for the comment on Coupe de Hebe. Robert I also have...See Morehybrid musk and teas/chinas for sf bay area
Comments (23)Thanks, everyone! I ordered from ARE last week: Cornelia, Madame Berkeley, Mutabilis, Sally Holmes, and Marie Van Houtte. These last three didn't come up on this thread, so hope I chose well. Mutabilis and Sally were on my want list, but I had forgotten about them. I've seen both around here looking really stunning. Marie Van Houtte was more of an impulse buy. I wanted Mrs Dudley Cross, but read MVH is less prone to mildew. Rosette Delizy was also a contender, but her color not as good with my existing plants. I really wanted to order the Cochets, but restrained myself due to the balling. Sigh... Marie VH and Mme Berkeley will have lots of sun; Mutabilis, mostly sun; Sally H will have morning sun. Not sure yet about where to plant Cornelia. I've read conflicting reports about how much sun she likes. I'll probably get one more shade tolerant rose- maybe Pax, Buff Beauty, or Reve D'or. My clay soil is waterlogged, so I'll probably need to wait awhile to plant. No complaints about the rain, though!...See MoreTelegraph ave hybrid china
Comments (8)It may be the same as Dr. Peck's 12th Ave Smoothie, which is in commerce as Charles Lawson (but is probably not the rose with that historic name). In Australia, they call it "The Everywhere Rose." Truly beautiful, relatively thornless, fragrant - and once-blooming. Miriam Wilkins and Jay Williams collected it in Oakland....See Morecontrary_grow
