Can't find anything out about The Quest!

I'm browsing the Heirloom sale and saw The Quest which I had seen in their gardens years ago. It was magnificent. However, I can't find out anything about it on HMF or other. Does anyone out there grow this? Would like to know something about it before ordering it. Thanks! CJ

I don't know either, but I am somehow getting two from the sale, one for me and one for MIL. Want to experiment together?

Very odd that there's no info available. Heirloom identifies it as one of the Harkness 'English Legend' roses, but is it?

Perhaps you should email Heirloom & ask them to provide something a bit more definitive. As far as I know, the only orange rose in that Harkness series is 'Della Balfour' (sp?), & I think she's a climber.

You're describing me and 1/2 the people I knew at that age. There are four "secrets" to changing it: 1) Screw depression. You're normal as can be. 2) Be -- and become -- the best person you can imagine for yourself. This is 100% yours. Your the only one who can develop yourself. Although the book is really old, Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People" remains quite current in terms of behaviors that work all the time, as do the Carnegie courses. Human nature is somewhat constant. If you're feeling like you're not "getting it" socially, here's one good place to find your clues. Most people find a lot of themselves in there -- and usually some things that need changing. It'll tell you how to do it. 3) Get out among other people as often as you can -- situations where you're not gathered because you're on the make but because you're doing something together. It will allow others to observe your behavior and find out who your are and what's attractive about you. At least once a week. People will learn that you exist and that there are interesting things about you. Join something with people of both sexes in it. Over time, magic happens. 4) Give it time to work. Just do it. I will work. You'll develop yourself, like yourself better, and others will come to know you and like you. Some won't but many will. All this will happen for you eventually anyway, but you can cut years off the process. It's the same for most of us. You've got a head start by realizing what you want and not allowing your ego to be a barrier to learning about how to obtain it.

I had been pulling it and that was helping except my neighbor hires his yard cut and he has tons of it and spreading to our yard and a nightmare. I don't think my neighbor has noticed that is grass is almost all now Virginia Buttonweed.

I have this Mid Century gondola sofa that I am trying to figure out maker/designer/origin. I do not believe it to be Pearsall or Kroehler, but I can't find a single one like it online. Any ideas?

I think you'll find that 'The Quest' is a 1986 Harkness F caled 'Wandering Minstrel' and 'Daniel Gelin'. There is an entry in HMF.

Thanks for the info. everyone. If this rose performs as well as it did in the Heirloom Gardens with no spray, I will be happy. I did call Heirloom this morning and spoke with someone who tried to tell me that they only propagate and sell roses but do not necessarily give out information about them. What? I was irritated and spoke with the sales manager who informed me that indeed The Quest is actually Wandering Minstrel (good job, roselilyguy). Now my irritation is that Heirloom is advertising it as having strong fragrance, while HMF says (and other sources) that it has none to little. Do not like odorless roses, grrrrr! Your experiences?? Is this rose like Livin' Easy? Thanks again. CJ

Pronounced fragrance is a very strong selling point in rose commerce, so a good rule of thumb is to discount EVERYTHING a vendor has to say about how wonderfully the perfume of an individual rose permeates an entire room or garden (we've all fallen for that fraudulent claim more times than we care to admit, right?).

Well, J&P's newest catalog arrived today in my mailbox. Therein, the fragrance of J&P's 2010 Rose of the Year, 'Sedona', is described as STRONG and " . . . a heavenly sweet pear fragrance distinctively different from any other scent in the rose garden"(!).

So I check this wonderful new rose out on HMF. How is the fragrance described there? Well, it's pointedly described as "NONE/NO". Not even "little or no", but "NONE/NO".

So how is one to interpret this discrepancy? Anyone now growing 'Sedona' who can clarify?
