Reduce and Reuse come before recycle

I've been catching up on a couple pages of postings and there are several spots where someone had what was seemingly a reusable item that they composted. Now I know why we do that, we love our compost. But I suggest always looking at reuse before recycling. Just to cite two examples, someone had vitamins that were still good, just too big for their taste, and someone else saw a roll of brown paper and was tempted to grab it for the compost. I am not singling these out to criticize, but just as examples to point out some items are best reused. This is better in the grand scheme of resource management.

I like to use the local Freecycle group online - if you haven't heard of this go to www.freecycle.org. You might be surprised at what your neighbors will want, and what they are willing to give away to avoid trashing it.

This has been a public service announcement. We now return you to your composting. :-]
