My mind is gone!

Yesterday I was thinking about color combos for my beds this year. This is alwasy fun for me and I start puting the flowers together in my wee, wee, mind. About 6:00 pm

last night I had one of my brain -----. I couldn't remember making a maker for the manihot hibiscus, or lemon slice or sunset, it has so many names. I went out and went through every pot I have planted, 102 of them. It wasn't there. Boy do I have the babies out there! I remember getting it in a trade and being thrilled with it but it is nowhere to be found. At least I saw what babies I have . Bakemom, my amsonia is doing great! Have any of you ever done this before or should I just call the rest home now? Sybil

That is exactly why I have a dry erase board I write every seed I sow and how many containers of each. Because I've learned at my age I can't rely on my memory any more. One year I had way too many cleome sown I ended up giving away and throwing out more. If you still have seeds ws some more just in case.

Sybil. Not to worry. When it comes up it will look like an Okra plant and you'll know. We all do stuff like that. I had a neighbor girl helping me wintersow and cover three window box trays of moss rose. We were moving them around and since they were all identical I am not sure if I left one tray without seed and double sowed another:) The seeds are so tiny and as black as the soil so there was no way to tell. Will just keep checking the trays and reseed if one doesn't germinate. If a wintersower has never goofed I want to hear from that person. Won't happen.

I actually purchased an own-root one from Roses Unlimited a few yrs ago. I planted it in one of my beds, and I don't believe it's ever bloomed yet! For some reason own-roots take forever to get going for me. Generally I try to plant them in 1gal containers for a few yrs before putting them in the ground. But for some reason I planted it in the ground right away. My soil is pretty crappy and I may not have amended it enough in that area. Roses Unlimited still lists it as available, if you're interested in trying it. You may not have any problem with it. You just never know. Everyone's experiences are different with every rose.

I would sacrifice a bit of symmetry for better function. If the plumbing can't be changed, I'd at least move it over to the right, and place the DW on the side nearer the DR, which I assume is off to the right. Then I'd put a dish hutch on the perimeter counter, to balance the ovens on the other end. With the DW and dish storage on that side, a helper can unload the DW or gather dishes to set the table, without interfering with prep and cooking. I moved the pantry door forward, to give you more space in the pantry, and to incorporate the door into the fridge wall. If you need elbow room on both sides when removing something from the wall ovens, you can open the pantry door. Cooktop and hood are centered between the ovens and dish hutch. The fridge is beside the pantry door, bringing it closer to the prep area, and providing a counter beside it for landing. The MW is on a shelf beside the fridge, with a cubby beside it, for cookbooks, cutting boards, or coffee cups, with space below for the coffee maker. Someone can re-heat left-overs, make a sandwich, pour a glass of juice, etc, without needing to turn to the island. The MW could instead be a drawer model, beside the fridge, but I wouldn't recommend an under-counter MW. Dog bowls could go in a low drawer, or toekick drawer under the dish hutch, or in the side of the island nearer the DR, to keep them out of the main prep/cooking areas. Trash pull-out is on the end of the island, convenient to the prep zone, cooking zone, and also the fridge/snack area. Hey, when I checked the WS FAQ nowhere did it say a MIND was a prerequisite!! Hmmm, wonder where I can get one this late in the season. LOL If it weren't for Mr. Spreadsheet and his trusty sidekick, Printer the-Wonder-Boy, I'd still be sowing the same things over and over thinking I'd forgotten them. Even then... hmm ... why do I not have larkspur and where are my coneflowers!?

Really, you are not alone. I had only so much room in my brain before I started WS'ing and now...heck.

Hey, do you suppose they let you WS at the home?

Well, I don't know if they let you WS at the home but I know they would enjoy you coming and planting out extras if they have a garden area. Just think of all the little old ladies who used to have gardens. (It might be us one day!)

Oh great! You just had to remind me about that spreadsheet! Oh I wanted to be organized this year... really... I thought I could handle this... WRONG!! I entered all the seed I sowed, or purchased. I was doing so well! I entered color, height, spread, light needs... all of it! Well.... then the brick and mortar stores started putting out the seed, I got carried away and what were we talkin' about?

Oh yeah... that spreadsheet... what spreadsheet? Flat or fitted sheets? Double? Queen?

Oh, the plants.... ?
