My tulips have emerged, and I am seeing new growth poking up from my berry bush. It can't be long now.....

Well, here I'd have to say that this is the third consecutive day of snow melting. I have friends that have told me that the old March "In like a Lion out like a Lamb" is total BS. I hope to heck that they are correct. It is sunshine and blue skies here today and about 36 degrees.

It's 40 degrees here.

Sigh. The pile of snow at the foot of our driveway from the street snowplow is so big I can't shovel over it now.

Daffodils are up & snowdrops are blooming on the south side of the house. Lupine on the north side has lots of new green growth. Snow's all melted too here in my little corner of north central CT. Roll on Spring and bring the green wave right along with you!

Yikes, I'd better get the chicken wire off my tulips, don't want them to grow through it any more. Thanks for the reminder! Also need to look more closely to see if daffs and couple other things have poked up.

This was taken in my front bed March 6, 2009, so it shouldn't be long now. 37F right now. High 30's then supposed to get into the 40's by Friday. Woo Hoo!

I'm SO getting crocus bulbs down this fall. I really needed some motivation to keep chugging through the winter.

My daffs are popping up. No buds yet, but any sign of spring is a good one at this point!

I looked out at my pussywillow, but will have to go thru the snow in the morning. I don't like the kind of daffs I got, pretty but too little.

The crocus is blue pearl but it's more purplish, multiplying pretty well. I've got the most gorgeous hyacinths, and they didn't have them last fall, would like more; they aren't multiplying for me so far anyway.

Also I want those regular King Alfred daffs and am thinking of asking the city if I buy enough for the boulevard, they will allow it. Somebody planted a new little tree out there, and the people behind me put whatever they want on theirs. But I would need help planting them, wish I had one of those tree thingies the foresters use, put it in at a 30-degree angle, push down with your foot and it acts like a crowbar, drop the bulb in and put the turf back. I have an augur for my drill but that leaves a lot to be desired, and my best bulb planter does not like sod. Yak, yak. Don't have sense enough to quit.

I wouldn't post any more but I love these so much. This was April 11 last year, be awhile yet.

Looked it up, it is called a dibble from forestry suppliers, $36.50, used for planting tree seedings. They have 3 different kinds at the link.

Well, my Rubykins Willow does have pussies all over the place but the native one still has not awakened. Honeysuckle 'Dropmore Scarlet' is already leafing out and the daylilies are poking through. All this despite that fact that the ground is still in a frozen state!!

Sometimes here in the north you have to appreciate the more subtle signs of spring. There are lots of birds singing in the a.m., and buds are swelling all over. But there is still a foot of snow in my yard. Thinking of what bounty is about to burst out gets you through. The back of winter is broken.

around 4:30 there was this bright stuff in the sky, Emily said it was "the sun". whatever that is.

I saw a skunk last night!!!
Not in my yard, or I wouldn't be this excited.lol
Skunk sightings come just before Robins! Yahoo!!

It reached 112 in my greenhouse yesterday (unheated). Sure sign the sun is higher in the sky :) Especially considering the outside temp was only in the 30s.
