funny you should ask! i just got dorcas this spring, and the pictures on HMF don't do that plant justice..it is really beautiful, with thick waxy petals..i have had only 1 bloom so far and the rain ruined it, but it was here long enough to know it will be one of my favorites! i have more buds, so when i get one open i'll post you a pic..donna

Several Buck roses fit the bill including Dorcas(above), Freckles, Grace Note and Spanish Rhapsody.

There are several Buck roses, as Predfern says. Another one is INCREDIBLE, which may not be available anywhere anymore. I got mine from Sam Kedem yrs ago. But here's a really cool single one that should be available again at Regan's next winter. It grows low and spready, and blooms pretty frequently.

Purple Tiger is an interesting rose, if you like stripes. Strong frangance as well.

Since you are in the North, you should consider once-bloomers as well.
There are some amazing speckled Gallica roses that would be cane-hardy and disease resistant for you. Ask on the Antique Roses Forum.

I find myself far more likely to enjoy a spotted or speckled than a stripey. Weird. Song of the Stars and The Imposter are both really, really cool!

I'm not a fan of striped Roses but my Mom is so I bought her Rock and Roll this year.
It's a lovely HT and the fragrance is to die for.
I've seen the blooms and can recomend the Rose without reservation.

Predfern-Incredible and spanish rhapsody are on my list now.Thanks for the suggetions.Now I have to find out if they have overwintered and are doing well in zone 5 or colder areas.

Cjoliff -I have seen purple tiger standard at Lowe's last summer and thought that the blooms were pretty.I might get it if I happen to find it in a bush form locally.
Michaelg-I haven't planted any once bloomers yet.Song of the star looks interesting and might get me started on once bloomers.
Chuck billie-I have planted rock and roll last month and like the bloom it gave me.
Greenhaven-what stiped and stippled(speckled)roses have overwintered and are doing well for you? Since you live in IL also your experience will be appreciated.

I LOVE Buck roses Freckles and Spanish Rhapsody.

Dana - out here Dorcas isn't all that spotted but it's a great rose regardless. MUCH MUCH better than Freckles, which I eventually got rid of. Better disease resistance by far - right now it's one of the only roses I have w no BS. Blooms are mostly pink with a hint of yellow inside. Great rose.

The striped roses I have aren't as disease resistant. Rockin Robin blooms a lot but it's got BS right now.

Scentimental oddly enough is in better shape for some reason. Doesn't bloom as much though.

Oranges n Lemons is great when it blooms but it's the stingiest bloomer I have and I may get rid of it.

Pandemonium gets loaded with BS.

I forgot the name of a couple but they also don't have much resistance.

In your area I don't know how they'd do but I suspect not much better.

I would suggest Smith's Parish but I doubt that it will survive in your climate - it's a Bermuda rose and even here, gets some dieback.

I really like striped roses but most don't seem particularly disease resistant and I don't like to spray.

Seems like a good thing for breeders to work on instead of more pink or yellow roses each year!

Hi Dana - Spanish Rhapsody didn't make it through the winter here for me. However, Sevilliana, another Buck is very similar in color and habit and is growing well and made it through the winter just fine. I bought Seviliana from Sheryl.

I grow Mountain Music and it remains small; more of a border-type rose. It's very beautiful; shell-pink color blooms with spots. It overwinters well, but dies back to the ground every year.
