There is no significant climate change that you would be able to feel. The jet stream moved farther south over the holiday and brought temperatures in the high 50s as the lows in the midwest/northeast in conjunction with a weak large low pressure system that slowly moved out of the region adding rain and cloudiness causing the low temps. It is unseasonably cool, but nothing all that unusual. The next week's forecast is sunny and in the 90s in Ohio.

Assuming climate change is legitimate(still unknown), I won't see the change in my lifetime, so it won't affect my roses any. About 2.5 billion years from now the sun will become a red giant, enlarge, and completely scorch and absorb the planet anyways. ;)

So much for global warming.

With all due respect, the ones who say it's unknown don't pay attention to the research.

The researchers knew this was real twenty years ago.

Anecdotal cold snaps of a day, week, month, or season don't change decades-long measurable trends.

It's still a theory. There is evidence to support it and chemical compositional changes that support the theory, but it's still a theory. There have been measureable increased over the past century over about a half degree, but even that can't be a causal direct relationship to global warming.

The theory of global warming supports the notion of colder winters and warmer summers. I don't lean one way or the other. The fact of the matter is that no significant change can be felt by a person in terms of a half degree increase in temp. Same goes for roses. Glacial land masses are affected though.

One year or part of a year that has unusual weather does not make a pattern or indicate a permanent climate change. Frankly, this cooler early summer is saving me money on my air conditioning.
We can't do anything about the weather except talk or complain about it, so make the best of it.
Instead of shivering, get an extra blanket like I did when that area of cold was over me. The cool nights make sleeping better, for me at least.
My roses and lawn don't seem to mind, they're growing as usual.

That's true. So also is the huge reduction in the north pole's ice cap.

One aspect is that global warming is causing the poles to melt thus cooling the oceans and air temps at the more moderate latitudes as the ocean currents move this cooling effect from the polar regions. Thus the short term effect as long as the polar ice continues to melt may be cooler average temps where the cooling effect is most pronounced. This would include North America.

It is truly unbelievable that there are so many that do not accept CC. It is not a theory. It has been proven over and over by countless scientists with a mountain of evidence.

But I suppose it is nice to want to believe that life will be still the same as far as the weather and whatever else may impact our lives. Comforting.

Well at least I'm going to plan ahead as far as roses are concerned. No harm in that and if CC continues to move on I'll be ahead of the curve.

The high is only 78 in my area which is very unusual for july 5th should be around 95.

The climate has always been changing. Just because it was one way for a hundred years or so doesn't mean that it is supposed to always be that way or was always that way. Look at the ice ages. At one point, most of this country was covered by ice. But it receded. And without man causing it.

This is not to say that we shouldn't look for energy alternatives that don't pollute or damage the environment. But to attribute every temperature fluctuation to some looming disaster is absurd. Just MHO.

I agree with buford. I am all for helping the environment and I actually support the theory of Global Warming as there is a lot of evidence in support of it. Temperature spikes in a single year don't indicate anything as we are looking for global trends over the span of centuries.

To the point though.......it won't affect your roses. ;)

By the time the theory is a proven fact it'll be too late to do anything about it. I'm not worried for me though. By the time it has too much effect on our lives and crops, I'll be long gone as rose fertilizer. My concerns are for those children being born now or those born in the last few years. I'm afraid my generation will be the last one to enjoy a fairly normal existance. There'll be a lot of want in the future as our children and grandchildren pay for our wasteful ways and our failure to accept "theorys".

Well. This is certain. I am having shorter and shorter summers.
Last year it hit 90 three times. The year before, August was the coolest month of summer, when it is suppose to be the hottest. The leaves start to change color by the second week of August, not September.
I now get September weather in June, and October to September weather in July. Then I get April weather in August.
I use to get over 120 hot to warm days growing up thorugh summer. Now every summer for the past ten years, I average 30 -40, while my summers are cooling down.
Heck, I only get about 3 thundertsorms a summer, when I use to get about 30 when I was a kid. Too cold for them anymore living up here near the East Coast..
All I know, is that it is not only me that feels this way, ALL the old timers and the locals raised here will agree the weather in nothing like it use to be 20 years ago. Too many extremes now!

Today Tuesday, I woke to temps in the 50's and drizzle all day once again. In fact for the next three! It is suppose to be in the 80's and 90's. What is going on?
I think the jet stream has moved south for July too.
I just got back from the nursery, and most their roses were rotted...
In fact my tomamtoes,roses, and lettuce rotted away too..

I havn't noticed anything out of the ordinary besides a lack of rainfall for the month. Aside from that, temps are still around the same monthly average they have been for over a hundred years now.

This seasons April showers came as snow showers...
prolonging into May...June was a solid month of rain and July...

First of all, hugs to LionessRose! I am so sorry for those nasty, nasty floods! ruining your 4th of July....

Personally I am fuming... Global warming IS OCCURRING RIGHT HERE AND NOW! And we are! experiencing it in our lifetime... I was horrified when I visited Alaska and saw how much global warming has RUINED our glaciers...

This coolness that we experience is from the draft of ice melting, and the floods you see likewise are from the melting of the polar caps... Global warming is not!!!! a theory... Scientific measuring tools do not lie or exaggerate... Tools are used to measure rings of ice similar to the way they measure tree rings for the life of a tree...and there are other measurements as well which have been very! carefully recorded.

The fact that we keep getting unseasonable coolness is from the melted ice...And I would beg that anyone who thinks it's a theory needs to come out and see Alaska...I think Americans are too busy watching the Sports Channel and driving their huge SUVs as opposed to NOVA...(p.s. horrors of horrors even my BF is driving around a recently purchased gas-guzzling SUV). so all that screeching on my part isn't doing much good.

Also Lionessrose's pictures also show that these are polar meltdown changes... The evidence is right! before our eyes...Within 5 years we have an onslaught of droughts spiked with flood/disasters...worldwide...Even my friends in England where it used to be cool and temperate, are complaining of their heat waves...

Jeffcat! I do notice a big! climate change over the years in my lifetime... When I was a kid we used to get very deep snows many times in winter and the snows would stay for several days... My parents took videos of us growing up and watching those this Christmas brought up those faraway memories. Every year, our snows get fewer and fewer and! they only last for a day! before they start melting like crazy...It makes me very sad if Kansas were never to get snow... Last year it only snowed 3x...and one of those snows was in March...

I guess I can't relate. Ohio gets the same snowfall and typical blizzards it always has. Snowfall totals havn't changed a bit and I can't say I've ever recognized any differences as a whole.

I am an old farmer. Weather is ALWAYS different. I've seen trends come and go, I can only guarantee that growing stuff will always be challenging and there is only two seasons : winter and road construction season. :.)

Read newspapers from a hundred years ago, turn to the weather (or farm related reports) you will see flash floods, dry summers, wet summers, bad winters, mild winters. I do not think you can use a rainy summer, or a dry one , or any sort of weather pattern as such.

I do believe humans are effecting our ecology, I do not believe in making rash or illogical decisions based on a small criteria, considering the actual # of years we have for recorded metorgical history, I would say claiming doom might be a far shortsited, fear is a particular powerful motivitor.

Should we change habits, of course we should, I compost, we recycle 80% of our trash etc. Im a huge proponent of wind power, this is the kind of proactive and economical sound things we can do right now to lessen our impact. But until someone comes up with a economical and practical way we can drive, that is the biggest key. Changing 10% of our gas to ethonal was foolish, it just destroys small motors 2-3 years quicker, which of course is more damaging to keep recreating.
