Please send the memo to my rose

Hi folks.

I posted here a few months ago; to recap, I bought 3 BB (cellophane wrapped) rose plants and 2 promptly expired. The 3rd one is a CL Golden Glow and it was kindly explained to me that GG is an old timey variety that blooms on old wood. I resigned myself to no roses this year.

The plant had just 3 long, skinny and very limber stalks for most of the summer and over the last few weeks has developed 4 more stalks that are thicker, straighter, harder and about 4' tall. These stalks are tipped in red growth and it looks as if there are buds developing!

Let me rephrase that, there are buds there (I keep checking and rechecking, shaking my head and saying to myself, this isn't suppose to happen - is it? Each of the 'hard stalks' have about a half dozen buds.

This plant seems to be a rule breaker or am I missing something?
